EXAMINATION OF TEACHERS

Candidates for Licenses or for Certificates in Class III. will be examined at the High School, Dunedin, or the Grammar School, Invercargill, on the 29th and 30th January, 1875, at 9 o'clock a.m. Intending competitors must send notice of their coming forward at least two clear days before day of examination.

BOYS' HIGH SCHOOL, DUNEDIN.

THE School will be re-opened on the 2nd February, 1875. Mr. D. Petrie, M.A., will conduct the Classical Department until the Rector's arrival in March next. The following are the other Masters of the School:—Mathematics—D. Brent, M.A.; English—Alex. Wilson, M.A.; Second Master and Teacher of Science—G. M. Thomson; Commercial Master—J. Gow; French—E. Demontalk, B.A.; Drawing—D. C. Hutton; Drill—Sergeant Stevens.

The School will be thoroughly re-organised, and divided into a Lower and an Upper Department. The Upper Department will have a Classical and a Modern Side. Boys not under nine years, or thereabouts, will be admitted into the Lower School without examination as to scholarship. Candidates for admission to the Upper School must pass an examination in Reading, Writing from Dictation, English Grammar, Arithmetic, Geography, and the Rudiments of Latin. Boys who do not wish to take Latin must pass either in Elementary Mathematics, or French.

A Prospectus, containing full information may be obtained on application.

GIRLS' HIGH SCHOOL, DUNEDIN.

The School will RE-OPEN on TUESDAY, the 2nd FEBRUARY.

There are a few Vacancies for Boarders. Extra Classes as heretofore for Music, Singing, and German.

Fees: For Upper School, £2 10s.; for Lower School, £2; payable in advance.

Girls will be admitted to the Lower School without examination if they have reached the age of about nine years. There is an examination before admission to the Upper School.

SCHOOLMASTER wanted for Cambrian (late Welshman’s) School.

Salary—Government allowance of £75, and the sum of £70 raised locally from school fees and otherwise. There is a residence in course of erection. Applications, with testimonials, to be lodged at the Education Office before the 4th February.

WANTED, for the Boys’ High School, Dunedin, a Rector’s Assistant.

Salary, £100 per year with free board and lodging in the Rectory. Applications and testimonials will be received till the 8th February by the undersigned, who will furnish additional information on application.

Salary, £75 per annum, with School fees. There is a new School and commodious residence newly erected, with 2 3/4 acres of land, substantially fenced, attached to it. Applications, with testimonials, to be lodged on or before the 8th February, 1875.

Salary, Government allowance £60 per annum and School Fees, small residence, and three acres of land. Applications, with testimonials, to be sent to the undersigned on or before the 20th February, 1875.

NOTICE TO DISTRICT ROAD BOARDS

The attention of the Awamoko, Kuri Bush, Matson, North Taieri, Roslyn, South Molyneux, and Taieri Road Boards is again directed to the fact that they have not yet furnished the account of receipts and disbursements for the year ended on 30th June, 1874, and they are again reminded that if they fail to do so forthwith they will be debarred from participating in any subsidy that may be granted by the General or Provincial Governments for the year ending 30th June, 1875.

to commence duties not later than 1st March next. Salaries per annum—Master, £140; Mistress, £75—no residences—with 75 per cent Fees from each department. Large new School buildings, a rapidly increasing population, and the advantages conferred by close proximity to the city, render this an extra eligible opening for qualified teachers.

Applications, with testimonials, to be lodged with the Chairman of the School Committee before 4th February next.
