"Extract from Section XIV of the Education Ordinance, 1864.

"On the second Monday in the month of January in each year, a public meeting of the owners and occupiers of land and householders in every Educational district, being male persons above twenty-one years of age, shall be held at a time and place to be fixed by the Secretary of the Board, and notified by public advertisement at least one month previously, and in such other manner as the Board shall direct, and at such meeting a Chairman shall be chosen and the School Committee for the preceding year shall give a full report of their proceedings, and thereupon the electors present shall proceed to elect, either by show of hands or by ballot, as shall be determined upon by the said meeting, a new School Committee for the ensuing year of not less than five, nor more than nine persons possessing the qualifications prescribed by clause 13, and may re-elect all, or any of the persons going out of office, to be members of such new Committee, and every Committee so to be appointed shall hold office until the appointment of their successors."


A MEETING of the Education Board will be held at
the Government Buildings, Dunedin, on Friday,
the 7th January, 1876, at noon.

DUNEDIN DISTRICT SCHOOLS.

APPLICATIONS, accompanied with Testimonials,
will be received by the Dunedin School Committee,
until 12 o'clock noon, on Saturday, the 8th January, 1876,
for a duly qualified Second Master for the South Dis-
trict School.
Salary: Government Grant and a proportion of school
fees, amounting to a total of £250 per annum.
The successful applicant will be required to enter upon
his duties on Monday, 17th January, 1876.

BLUESKIN DISTRICT SCHOOL.

WANTED for the above, a SCHOOLMISTRESS.
Applications, containing Certificates and Testi-
monials, addressed to Mr W. Porteous, Secretary, will
be received up to the 4th January, 1876. Salary, £100
per annum. The lady appointed will be expected to com-
mence duty in January.

OTAGO HARBOUR BOARD.

A Bye-law and Regulation of the Otago Harbour
Board.

WHEREAS by Section 7 of the Otago Harbour
Board Empowering Act, 1875, it is enacted that
it shall be lawful for the Otago Harbour Board to levy a
general harbour improvement rate not exceeding in any
case 2s per ton by weight or by measurement laws upon
all goods, wares, and merchandise discharged at or
shipped from the port of Dunedin: Now, therefore, the
Otago Harbour Board doth hereby declare that there
shall be levied and doth hereby levy on all goods, wares,
and merchandise discharged at or shipped from the port
of Dunedin, with the exception of all goods, wares, and
merchandise landed at the Railway Pier, Port Chalmers,
a general harbour improvement rate as follows, viz.:—

Imports.—Sawn timber, 4d. per 100 feet.
Coal, firewood, produce in sacks, 1s. per
ton.
All other goods 2s per ton.
Exports.—Wool, 1s. per bale.
All other goods or produce exported beyond
New Zealand, 1s. per ton.
Transhipments.—All goods or produce transhipped to
or from other Ports, half rates.

And whereas by section 12 of the Otago Harbour
Board Empowering Act, 1875, it is enacted that the har-
bour improvement rate chargable on goods, wares, and
merchandise landed at the Railway Pier, Port Chalmers,
shall be not more than one half of the rate charged on
goods, wares, and merchandise landed at any other dock,
wharf, or pier in the Port of Dunedin : Now, therefore,
the Otago Harbour Board doth hereby declare that there
shall be levied and doth hereby levy on goods, wares, and
merchandise landed at the Railway Pier, Port Chalmers,
a general harbour improvement rate as follows:—

ton.
All other goods, 1s. per ton.
Exports.—Wool, 6d per bale.

Made and passed by the said Otago Harbour
Board at a meeting of the said Otago Board
held on the seventh day of December, and
sealed with the seal of the said Board at
Dunedin on the said seventh day of December,
1875, in the presence of the following mem-
bers of the said Otago Harbour Board.

OTAGO HARBOUR BOARD.

A Bye-law and Regulation of the Otago Harbour Board
under and by virtue of the delegation of the powers
conferred by His Honor the Superintendent of the
Province of Otago, published in the New Zealand
Gazette of 10th December, 1874 and of every other
power enabling the Board thereto; made and passed
by the said Otago Harbour Board on the seventh day
of December, one thousand eight hundred and seventy-
five, to wit :—

A LL Rules and Regulations previously made for the
management of Jetties and Wharves within the
limits of the Port of Dunedin or Harbour of Otago, shall
cease and determine, and in lieu thereof the rules and
regulations set out in the schedule hereto shall be made,
ordained, and appointed for all wharves within the Port
of Dunedin other than the Railway Wharves at Port
Chalmers.

SCHEDULE.

I. The landing steps at all jetties shall be open to the
public, and no charge shall be made for watermens' boats
plying to and from the said landing places.
II. Fishermens' boats shall pay twenty shillings per
annum for use of landing stage provided for them.
III. There shall be paid jetty dues at the following
rates, viz :—

Stock.—Horses, 1s 6d each. Cattle, 1s each. Sheep,
1 1/2d each. Pigs, 2d each.

Storage.—Any produce, goods, or other cargo (with
the exception of timber), occupying the
wharves or wharf-sheds for a longer
period than three days, shall pay a charge
of 5s per ton per week, or for any part of
a week.

Timber.—For the removal of cargoes of timber, the
following periods of time respectively
shall be allowed after the discharge of the
vessel, without any charge for storage:—
