THE "OTAGO ROADS ORDINANCE AMEND-
MENT ORDINANCE 1872."
Appointment of First Election Days.
WHEREAS by "The Otago Roads Ordinance
Amendment Ordinance 1872" it is provided that
the first election of members of the District Board in
every district shall take place and be held on such day as
the Superintendent shall appoint: Now therefore I, James
Macandrew, Superintendent of the Province of Otago, do
hereby appoint the 15th day of August, 1874, at twelve
o'clock noon, at the Court House, Mataura Bridge, for
the first election of members of the District Board of the
Tuturau Road District, to be elected under and by virtue
of the "Otago Roads Ordinance 1871" and the "Otago
Roads Ordinance Amendment Ordinance 1872."
Given under my hand, and issued under the public
seal of the Province of Otago, at Dunedin, in
the said Province, this eleventh day of July,
one thousand eight hundred and seventy-four.

NOTICE.
I, JAMES STEWART SHANKS, Returning Officer
for the Tuturau Road District, do hereby, in terms
of the ninety-eighth section of the "Otago Roads Ordi-
nance 1871," require all candidates to be nominated in
manner as is by the said Ordinance provided, and at such
time and place as are above set forth: And I do hereby
give notice that in the event of a poll being demanded,
notice of the day on which such poll shall be held will be
given immediately upon such demand being made.

NOTICE.
NOTICE is hereby given that His Honor the Deputy
Superintendent has, until the next Session of the
Provincial Council, under, and by virtue of the powers
vested in him by law, reserved from sale the lands men-
tioned in the schedule hereto:—
SCHEDULE.
3,800 Acres Coal Reserve, bounded towards north by
section 3, Wairaki; east by a meridian line through Trig.
H; a line drawn from Trig. H to the Wairu Creek,
where it cuts the north boundary of run 153 and by the
Wairu Creek; towards the south by reserved block in
run 143 and by Fish Creek; towards West by a branch of
the Fish Creek, Educational reserve, and by the Mosley
Stream, as the same is delineated on the maps in the
Land Office, Invercargill.

BONUS FOR THE ESTABLISHMENT OF
POTTERY WORKS IN OTAGO.
THE Provincial Government, being desirous of en-
couraging the establishment of Pottery Works in
Otago, is prepared to pay a Bonus of £250, as under:—
On the erection of buildings and plant to the value of
at least £300—£75.
On the production of pottery to a value of not less
than £150—£75.
On the production of a further quantity of pottery to
a value of not less than £200—£100.
The potteryware in each case to be suitable for house-
hold or domestic purposes, to be produced in works per-
manently established in the Province, and to be manu-
factured either wholly or to a large extent from material
obtained in the Province.
Proposals will be received at the Provincial Govern-
ment Offices, Dunedin, until the 1st of October, 1874,
and should state the estimated cost and productive power
of the works proposed to be erected, the date at which
the same will be in operation, and that the parties will be
bound in the sum of £100 to produce pottery to the
value of £300, within two years from the date on which
their offer is accepted.

NOTICE.—ATHENÆUMS.
A SUM of £1500 having been voted by the Provincial
Council to assist in providing buildings to be used
as Athenæums in localities where no such buildings have
as yet been erected.
It is hereby notified to those desirous of participating
in the vote, that in order to do so it will be necessary to
forward a written application, stating the amount col-
lected, and giving a general description of the approxi-
mate cost of the building proposed to be erected. The sum
voted will be distributed pro rata to the contributors of
the district, provided that in no case shall the contribu-
tion of the Government exceed the sum of £250 to any
building.
Applications to be received at this office on or before
the 1st day of October proximo, after which date no fur-
ther application for subsidy will be entertained during
the current financial year.

A M E N D E D N O T I C E.
WHALING BONUS, £500.
Open until the first day of Nov. 1874.
THE Provincial Government will pay £250 by way of
Bonus to the first vessel which leaves the Province
fully equipped for a whaling cruise, provided such vessel
shall leave on or before the 1st day of November 1874;
also £250 on her returning to the Province with a cargo
of oil; provided that such vessel is owned in, and hails
from a port within the Province. Vessel not to be under
150 tons. Provided also that she carries at least five
boys as apprentices. Bonus will be paid on production
of certificate from the Harbor Master that these provi-
sions have been complied with.

NOTICE TO APPLICANTS FOR UNSURVEYED
LAND, under "Otago Waste Land Act, 1872."
IT is hereby notified to the Applicants whose names ap-
pear in the subjoined Schedule, that they have been de-
clared to be the purchasers of the Sections set opposite
their names in the Schedule, and that the purchase
money of these Sections must be paid to the Receiver of
Land Revenue in Dunedin and Invercargill on or before
Wednesday, the 12th day of August, 1874, otherwise the
applications will be deemed withdrawn, cancelled and
void, and the deposit made at the time of lodging the
application will be forfeited.
