NOTICE.

In the matter of the "Highway Boards Empowering Act, 1871," and of an Order made by the Portobello Road Board for diverting a Road.

UNDER and by virtue of the provisions of section thirty-three of the "Highway Boards Empowering Act, 1871," I, James Macandrew, Superintendent of the Province of Otago, do hereby appoint and fix Friday, the 17th day of July proximo, at the hour of 11 o’clock in the forenoon, at the Superintendent’s office, in the Provincial Government Buildings, at Dunedin, as and to be the time and place for taking into consideration an Order made by the Portobello Road Board on the 10th day of June, 1874, and published in the Otago Provincial Government Gazette, No. 913, on the 17th day of June, 1874, for diverting a Road through sections 4 and 5, block III, Otago Peninsula Survey District.

PUBLIC NOTIFICATION.

IN conformity to the 29th section of the "Gold Fields Act, 1866," and to the Regulations made under that Act and the Gold Fields Acts Amendment Acts of 1867, 1868, and 1869, for the granting of leases for gold mining purposes within the Province of Otago, it is hereby notified that it is intended to grant a lease for gold mining purposes of Crown Lands to the applicant specified in the annexed Schedule, unless there shall be valid objections against granting such lease.

Objections to the granting of such lease, stating the grounds of objection, must be made in writing, and lodged with the Warden at Lawrence, on or before the 22nd day of July, 1874.

Copy of the application made, and plans annexed, may be seen at the Warden’s Office at Lawrence.

SCHEDULE.

John Mitchell, on behalf of the Number One Company, for 10 acres of land, more or less, as the same may be found after survey to be situated within the pegs and trenches of the applicants, situated at Waipori Flat, in Mrs. Lewis’s Paddock, from fence to fence, north and south, being continuation of Waipori Gold Mining Co.’s claim.

NOTICE.

A SUM of £1500 having been voted by the Provincial Council to assist in providing buildings to be used as Athenaeums in localities where no such buildings have as yet been erected.

It is hereby notified to those desirous of participating in the vote, that in order to do so it will be necessary to forward a written application, stating the amount collected, and giving a general description of the approximate cost of the building proposed to be erected. The sum voted will be distributed pro rata to the contributors of the district, provided that in no case shall the contribution of the Government exceed the sum of £250 to any building.

Applications to be received at this office on or before the 1st day of October proximo, after which date no further application for subsidy will be entertained during the current financial year.

BONUS FOR THE ESTABLISHMENT OF POTTERY WORKS IN OTAGO.

THE Provincial Government, being desirous of encouraging the establishment of Pottery Works in Otago, is prepared to pay a Bonus of £250, as under:—

On the erection of buildings and plant to the value of at least £300—£75.

On the production of pottery to a value of not less than £150—£75.

On the production of a further quantity of pottery to a value of not less than £200—£100.

The potteryware in each case to be suitable for household or domestic purposes, to be produced in works permanently established in the Province, and to be manufactured either wholly or to a large extent from material obtained in the Province.

Proposals will be received at the Provincial Government Offices, Dunedin, until the 1st of October, 1874, and should state the estimated cost and productive power of the works proposed to be erected, the date at which the same will be in operation, and that the parties will be bound in the sum of £100 to produce pottery to the value of £300, within two years from the date on which their offer is accepted.

Contract No. 945—Construction of stone and timber Bridge over the Kakanui River, on Main North road.

Plans and specifications may be seen, and forms of tender obtained, at the office of the Provincial Engineer, Dunedin, and at Police Camp, Oamaru.

Tenders to be indorsed "Tender for Contract No. 945."

The Government does not undertake to accept the lowest or any tender.

NOTICE TO MARINERS.

LIGHT IN THE N.E. HARBOUR OF DUNEDIN.

NOTICE is hereby given, that on and after the 1st July, 1874, a Fixed Red Light will be exhibited from a lantern on the upper corner of the Jetty in the N.E. Harbour, and may be seen in clear weather two and a-half miles.
