INCENDIARISM.

Maliciously Setting Fire to a Stack of Wheat.

£100 REWARD

And a Free Pardon to an Accomplice.

WHEREAS about 11 o’clock on the night of the 29th ultimo, a stack of Wheat, situate at Totara, near Oamaru, the property of the New Zealand and Australian Land Company, value £180, was discovered on fire: And whereas the said fire is believed to have been the act of an Incendiary:

Notice is hereby Given, that a reward of £100 will be paid by the Provincial Government of Otago to any person who will first give such information as will lead to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons by whom the said fire was caused, and His Excellency the Governor will be advised to grant a Free Pardon to an accomplice, not being the person who actually caused the fire, who will give such information as will lead to a like result.

WHEREAS about 10 o’clock p.m. on the 2nd instant, three stacks of wheat and one stack of oats, situate at North Clutha, near Kaitangata Lake, the property of William M’Fadden, containing about 1,800 bushels of wheat, were destroyed by fire: And whereas the said fire is believed to have been the work of an incendiary:

Notice is hereby Given, that a reward of £100 will be paid by the Provincial Government of Otago to any person who will first give such information as will lead to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons by whom the said fire was caused, and His Excellency the Governor will be advised to grant a Free Pardon to an accomplice, not being the person who actually caused the fire, who will give such information as will lead to a like result.

QUARANTINE STATION APPOINTED.

A PROCLAMATION.

WHEREAS by the fifty-fifth section of “The Public Health Act, 1872,” it is enacted that the Governor may from time to time, by any order notified by Proclamation in the Gazette, appoint certain stations or places within or near any harbour or place within New Zealand, for the performance of the Third Part of the said Act;

And whereas by Proclamation bearing date the thirteenth day of August, one thousand eight hundred and seventy-three, the Governor, in exercise of the power and authority vested in him, did order and appoint that the places named and described in the Schedule thereto should be, and the same were thereby appointed to the stations for the performance of quarantine as therein mentioned: And whereas it is expedient to extend the limits of the station or place mentioned and described in the said Schedule as the station or place appointed for the performance of quarantine in the Otago Harbour:

Now therefore, I, Sir James Fergusson, Baronet, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of the power and authority vested in me for that purpose, do by this Proclamation order and appoint that the places named and described in the Schedule hereto shall be, and the same are hereby appointed to be a Station for the Performance of Quarantine in the Otago Harbour under the Third Part of “The Public Health Act, 1872.”

SCHEDULE.

The whole of the two islands down to low water-mark of spring tides, defined on the Admiralty Chart (No. 241D) of Otago Harbour or Port Chalmers by Captain Stokes as the Half-way Islands; together with all that area estimated to contain two hundred and ten (210) acres more or less, being part of Otago Harbour or Port Chalmers aforesaid. Bounded towards the North-north-west by a line extending from Acheron Head to Quarantine Point, forty-six (46) chains; thence by a line due South, forty-six (46) chains; thence by a line in a west-south-westerly direction, forty-six (46) chains; thence by a line due north, forty-six (46) chains, to the starting point.

Given under the hand of His Excellency the Right Honorable Sir James Fergusson, Baronet, a Member of Her Majesty’s Most Honorable Privy Council, Governor and Commander-in-Chief in and over Her Majesty’s Colony of New Zealand and its Dependencies, and Vice-Admiral of the same; and issued under the Seal of the said Colony, at Auckland, this second day of May, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and seventy-four.
