TENDERS

Tenders will be received at the Office of the Secretary for Works, until noon of Tuesday, 5th May, 1874, for

Contract No. 938.—Construction of 2 miles 58 chains road, Portobello to Heads, commencing near North’s House, and extending towards Heads.

Plans and specifications may be seen, and forms of tender obtained, at the office of the Provincial Engineer, Dunedin.

Tenders to be indorsed "Tender for Contract No. 938."
The Government does not undertake to accept the lowest or any tender.

IMMIGRANTS’ COTTAGES

TENDERS will be received at the office of Secretary for Works until Thursday, the 7th May, at noon, for Timber Cottages at Greytown and Waihola, Contract No. 939.

Plans and specifications will be found at School-house, Greytown and Waihola, and Police Station, Tokomairiro, on and after Saturday, 25th April.

NOTICE

TUESDAY, 19th May, at noon.

NOTICE is hereby given that the lately reclaimed land sections Nos. 1 to 7, block LI, Dunedin, containing upwards of 1 rood each, suitable for manufacturing purposes, and adjacent to the Railway Station, will be offered for sale, under special conditions, by public auction, by Mr. James Milner, at the Land Office, Dunedin, at noon on Tuesday, the 19th day of May, 1874. For terms and conditions apply at the office of the Secretary for Works on and after Monday, the 20th April, 1874.

NOTICE

TUESDAY, 2nd June.

NOTICE is hereby given that Section 1 Block 1, Coast District, containing 51a 0r 18p will be offered for sale by public auction as land of special value at Barr’s Hall, Balclutha, at the upset price of £2 per acre. Sections 13 and remaining part of Section 7 and Block 37, Toko-mairo, containing respectively 1a 2r 17p and 23a 2r 11p, at the upset price of £1 1s per acre, on Tuesday, the 2nd day of June next at noon.

NOTICE is also given that Section 2 of 15 Block 1, Clutha District, containing 30 acres, will be offered for sale by public auction at the auction rooms of Messrs Capsick, Duthie and Capsick, on Tuesday, the 2nd day of June next at noon, at the upset price of £1 1s per acre.


UNIVERSITY OF OTAGO

RICHARDSON SCHOLARSHIP

The Competition for the Richardson Scholarship will take place on Friday, 1st May, 1874.

The subjects for examination, with the marks showing the relative value of each, are the following:—English, 150; Arithmetic, 150; Geometry, Euclid, Books I. and II., 100; Algebra, 100; Latin, Virgil’s Georgics and De Amicitia, 200; Greek, Anabasis, 100; General Geography, and History of England, from the Revolution to the Accession of Queen Victoria, 100; Natural Science, 100.

Competitors must have attended for two years some Provincial School, and for one year the High School of Dunedin; age must not exceed 18.

The Scholarship is tenable for three years, and of the value of £30 per annum.

The names of competitors, with certificates of good conduct, must be sent to me on or before 30th April.

UNIVERSITY OF OTAGO

THE SESSION for 1874 will be opened on MONDAY, 4th of MAY, with an Introductory Address by Captain Hutton, Lecturer on Geology and Zoology, at 7.30 p.m.

The Matriculation Examination will be held on the 1st and 2nd of May, commencing at 10 a.m.

On Tuesday, the 5th, the different Classes will be opened as follows:—

Classics, English Language and Literature, PROFESSOR SALE, M.A.

Mathematics and Natural Philosophy, PROFESSOR SHAND, M.A.

Mental and Moral Philosophy and Political Economy, PROFESSOR MACGREGOR, M.A.

Chemistry and Mineralogy, PROFESSOR BLACK, M.A., D.Sc.

Geology and Palaeontology, CAPTAIN HUTTON, F.G.S.

Law, ROBERT STOUT, Esq., Barrister.
