UNIVERSITY OF OTAGO.

THE SESSION for 1874 will be opened on MONDAY, 4th of MAY, with an Introductory Address by Captain Hutton, Lecturer on Geology and Zoology, at 7.30 p.m.

The Matriculation Examination will be held on the 1st and 2nd of May, commencing at 10 a.m.

On Tuesday, the 5th, the different Classes will be opened as follows:—

  • Classics, English Language and Literature, PROFESSOR SALE, M.A.
  • Mathematics and Natural Philosophy, PROFESSOR SHAND, M.A.
  • Mental and Moral Philosophy and Political Economy, PROFESSOR MACGREGOR, M.A.
  • Chemistry and Mineralogy, PROFESSOR BLACK, M.A., D.S.C.
  • Geology and Palaeontology, CAPTAIN HUTTON, F.G.S.
  • Law, ROBERT STOUT, Esq., Barrister.

EDUCATION DISTRICTS.

NOTICE is hereby Given, that the Education Board has divided the Educational District of Caversham into the three separate Educational Districts of Caversham, Forbury, and Kensington; and that a meeting of owners and occupiers of land and householders will be held in the School-house of each of the said districts, upon Monday, the 6th day of April, 1874, at eight o’clock p.m., for the purpose of electing a school committee for such district for the current year.

WANTED, a duly qualified Teacher for the Pleasant River Main District School. Salary, £100 per annum, and two-thirds of the School Fees. Free house, containing five rooms, and Garden. Attendance at school, 50. The late teacher was also Postmaster.

WANTED, a Schoolmaster for the Wallacetown School; salary, government subsidy, and School fees, with 2½ acres of land, and free house containing five rooms. Applicants with testimonials to be sent to the Rev. A. Stevens, Chairman of School Committee, on or before the 20th May. One qualified to teach the classics and Higher Branches preferred. Must be able to enter upon his duties by the 20th June.

WANTED, a Female Teacher for the Albert Town School (near Lake Wanaka). Salary—£100 per annum, guaranteed, and free residence.

EDUCATION RESERVES, SOUTHLAND.

APPLICATIONS will be received by Mr. John A. H. Baker, Survey Office, Invercargill, from persons wishing to lease any of the Reserves as formerly advertised.

Copies of the Otago Regulations and conditions for the leasing of Education Reserves, can be obtained from Mr. Baker, Invercargill.


NOTICE.

TENDERS Wanted by the Portobello Road Board for the following Works in the Sandymount Sub-division, viz.—

Cutting Hill on Seal-point Road.

Mr. George Boyles will show the work, on Saturday, the 28th inst., at 12 o’clock.

SEASIDE ROAD DISTRICT.

It is hereby notified that the Seaside Road Board intend on Saturday the 11th April next, to levy a special rate for the year 1873-4 of one shilling per £, on the full neat annual value of all property liable to be rated within the above-named Road District.

WAIPOI DISTRICT ROAD BOARD.

TENDERS are invited by the Board, up till noon on Saturday, the 4th April, for several Contracts in the above District, including Bridges, Metal, and formation.

Plans and specifications can be seen for the works in each Sub-division as under:—

  • Maungatua—At the Post Office, Maungatua.
  • Clarendon—At the Post Office, Lake Waihola.
  • Waihola West—At Mr. Joseph Graham’s.

Tenders to be addressed to the Chairman, Lake Waihopai Post Office.

The Board does not undertake to accept the lowest or any tender.

No. 3.—100 yards metal on portion of Road No. III. Highcliffe. Work will be shown by Mr. R. Inglis, Highcliffe.

Tenders must be lodged with the undersigned, not later than Saturday, April 4, 1874.
