TWO Scholarships,

Tenable for three years, of the annual value of £25 and £15, respectively, to be competed for by students entering on their University course; and

ONE Scholarship,

Tenable for two years, of the annual value of £25, to be competed for by second year students.

The subjects of examination for the first two scholarships are:— 1. Arithmetic. 2. English Grammar and Analysis. 3. Mathematics: Euclid, Book I. 4. English History; period between French Revolution and Accession of Queen Victoria. 5. Latin: De Amicitia. 6. Greek: Grammar. 7. Scripture Knowledge: Genesis and Acts.

The subjects for the last-mentioned scholarship are:— 1. Mathematics: Euclid, Books I. and II. 2. Algebra up to Quadratics. 3. English History and Literature; period 1689–1727. 4. Roman History: first century. 5. Latin: Eneid Book VI. 6. Greek: Anabasis Book II. 7. Scripture Knowledge: Genesis and Acts.

The competition will take place in the Class-room of Knox Church, on the 29th and 30th April, at 10 a.m.

Intending competitors will please give early notice of their intention to E. B. Cargill, Esq., and also forward certificates of character from their respective ministers.

SUPREME COURT.

NOTICE is hereby given, that a Sitting of the Supreme Court, for the despatch of Criminal and Civil business, will be holden at the Supreme Court House, at Dunedin, on Wednesday, the Eighth day of April next, at the hour of ten o’clock in the forenoon; at which time and place all persons bound by recognizances to appear as prosecutors, plaintiffs, defendants, or witnesses, are required to give their attendance.


SUPREME COURT CIRCUIT SITTINGS.

NOTICE is hereby Given, that a Circuit Sitting of the Supreme Court for the despatch of Criminal Business will be holden at the Court House at Lawrence, on Tuesday, the seventeenth day of March next, at the hour of ten o’clock in the forenoon; at which time and place all persons bound by recognizances or otherwise to appear as prosecutors, defendants, or witnesses are required to give their attendance.


CITY OF DUNEDIN.

Public Notice is hereby Given, that the Assessment of all buildings, lands, tenements, and hereditaments, within the City of Dunedin (as authorised by the “Otago Municipal Corporations Ordinance, 1865,” and the “Otago Municipal Corporations Ordinance Amendment Ordinance, 1872”) for the year ending December 31st, 1874 according to the full, fair, and estimated annual rent at which the same might reasonably be expected to let from year to year free of all usual tenants’ rates and taxes, and deducting therefrom the probable average annual cost of the repairs, insurance, and other expenses (if any) necessary to maintain the same in a state to command such rent, has been duly made.

Notice is further Given, that the said Assessment having, on the fourth day of March, 1874, been allowed by the Council of the said City, is now deposited, and may be daily inspected, at the Town Clerk’s Office, in Manse street in the said City, between the hours of 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., by any person interested therein.

And Notice is further Given, that any appeals against the said Assessment may be lodged at the City Council Chambers, Manse street (where blank forms may be had), on or before the 24th day of March instant; also, that a copy of each Notice of Appeal is required by law to be served, not later than the 24th instant, upon any person whose name it may be proposed to insert in the assessment, or whose property it may be alleged has been omitted therefrom, or assessed below its full, fair, and annual value.

CORPORATION OF CROMWELL.

PUBLIC NOTICE is hereby given, in conformity with section 192 of the “Municipal Corporations Act,” that the Regulations made under the various subdivisions of the 13th Schedule of the said Act, have been proposed by the Town Council, and that a copy of said Regulations is deposited for inspection of any person interested therein, at the office of the said Council, for seven days from the date hereof.

TENDERS are invited for breaking and spreading 80 yards Road Metal (more or less). The stone can be seen at foot of old Port Road, North-east Valley, and tenders left at School House, North-east Valley on or before Saturday, the 28th March, at 2 p.m.

LEASE OF TOLLS.

THE Leases, for the Year from 1st April 1874 to 31st March 1875, of the various Tolls throughout the Province, will be sold by public auction, at the Provincial Government Buildings, on the 20th day of March, at noon.
