with slates, tiles, metal, or other incombustible material, notwithstanding such roof may have been upon such building at the time of the making of this Regulation.

A Privy shall not be deemed to be a new building within the meaning of this regulation.

The frontage of all sections declared under the Building Regulations to a depth of not less than forty feet must, when built upon, be either of brick or stone. That buildings of wood may be erected on other portions of sections so declared on following conditions, viz.:—1st. No such building to be of more than one storey in height. 2nd. Every such building to be roofed of iron, slate, or tile. 3rd. No such building to be erected nearer than ten feet to a brick building, or twenty feet to an existing wood building, or 50 feet from the frontage.

All that block of land situated within the said Town of Invercargill, being sections numbers one, eleven, twelve, thirteen, fourteen, fifteen, sixteen, seventeen, eighteen, nineteen, twenty, twenty-one, and twenty-two, of Block number one, on the map of the said Town of Invercargill, and bounded on the north by Spey-street, on the east by Dee-street; on the south by Esk-street; on the west by Leven-street; again on the north by section number ten of said Block one; again on the west by sections numbers ten, nine, eight, seven, six, five, four, three, and two of said Block one; again on the south by said section number two, and again on the west by Leven-street aforesaid.

All that block of land within the said Town of Invercargill, being Block number two on the map of the said town, bounded on the north by Esk-street; on the east by Kelvin-street; on the south by Tay-street; and on the west by Dee-street.

All that Block of land within the said Town of Invercargill, being Block number seventy-five, on map of the said town, bounded on the north by Tay-street; on the east by Nith-street; on the south by Wood-street; and on the west by Clyde-street. The frontage to Wood-street of this Block shall not be deemed for the purposes and within the meaning of the said Regulations to be a frontage.

All that block of land within the said Town of Invercargill, comprising sections numbers one, two, three, twelve, thirteen, fourteen, fifteen, sixteen, seventeen, eighteen, nineteen, twenty, twenty-one and twenty-two of Block number nine, on the map of the said Town of Invercargill, bounded on the north by Don-street; on the east by section number four of said block number nine, again on the north by sections numbers four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten, and eleven of said block number nine, again on the east by Kelvin-street, on the south by Esk-street, and on the west by Dee-street.

New buildings under the value of £100 ... 10s
Over £100 and under £200 ... 15s
— £200 — £300 ... 20s
— £300 — £400 ... 25s
— £400 — £500 ... 30s
— £500 — £600 ... 35s
— £600 — ... 40s
For the examination of any new building built contrary to the provisions of these Regulations, or without due notice ... 40s

BYE LAW NO. 1.
A bye-law to provide for the better rule and Government of the Town of Invercargill.
In pursuance of the powers and provisions contained in clause 186 of part 13 of the “Municipal Corporations Act, 1867,” the Council of the Town of Invercargill ordains as follows, that is to say:—
Any person guilty of any of the following offences, omissions, or neglects, within the town of Invercargill, shall, on being convicted of any such offence, neglect, or omission, be liable to pay any penalty not exceeding (£5) five pounds.
1st.—Throwing any glass, filth, dirt, rubbish, or other matter of a similar nature, upon any street, footway, court, alley, or public place whatsoever.
2nd.—Riding, driving, leading, or wheeling any barrow, cart, dray, or carriage, upon or along, any footpath without permission for the own Council to do so.
3rd.—Placing any timber, bricks, stones, or other building materials upon any footway, channel, surface drain, or carriage road, without any permission as aforesaid.
4th.—Burning any shavings, straw, or other materials or matter upon any footway, carriage road, or open or public place, without such permission as aforesaid.
5th.—Leaving any inflammable materials or matter in any public shed or place, or on any open space near any building, without such permission as aforesaid.
6th.—Drawing or trailing any sledge, timber, or other material upon any footway, or carriage road, to the injury of such footway, or carriage road.
7th.—Emptying any privy or cesspool, or carting away any night soil, or other offensive matter, without having a license from the Town Council of Invercargill so to do.
8th.—Allowing any night soil or other offensive matter to be spilt, or otherwise cast on to or upon any road, street, footway, public place, or thoroughfare.
9th.—Allowing the droppings from the eaves of any house to fall upon any footway.
10th.—Placing any placard, or other document, writing, or painting on, or otherwise defacing any house, or building, or any wall, fence, lamppost, railway post, or gate, without the consent of the occupier or owner thereof.
11th.—Opening any drain, or sewer, or removing the surface of any footway or carriage road, without authority of the Town Council to do so.
12th.—Neglecting to clean any private yard, way, passage, or avenue, by which neglect a nuisance, by offensive smell or otherwise, is caused.
13th.—Beating any carpet, breaking in any horse, flying any kite, using any bows and arrows, or playing at any game, to the annoyance of any person, in any public street, or obstructing any footpath, or carriage road, whether by allowing any cart or animal to remain across such footpath or carriage road, or by placing goods thereon or otherwise.
14th.—Throwing or discharging any stone, or other missile, to damage or danger of any person or property.
15th.—Having any awning on or over any footway in any public street or thoroughfare, not being ten feet above the footpath.
16th.—Blasting any rock, stone, or timber in or near any public place without permission of the Town Council.
17th.—Furiously or negligently riding or driving through any public place, street, or thoroughfare.
18th.—If any butcher or other person shall kill or slaughter any animal without having been duly licensed in that behalf by the Town Council.
19th.—Making any cellar door, or other opening from the footway of any street or public thoroughfare, without the consent, or not in accordance with the directions of the Town Council.
