PUBLIC NOTICE

Under Section 1, of Regulation IV.

WHEREAS I have received sufficient proof that the portion of the Otago Gold Field, described in the schedule hereto, is for the whole or the greater part of an inferior character as regards the value of its alluvial gold deposits: Now, therefore, I hereby give notice that the same may be occupied by holders of Miners’ Rights in claims of the under-mentioned size, viz:—

One (1) acre for each holder of a miner’s right, provided that no block claim shall comprise more than six (6) acres altogether.

SCHEDULE.

All that portion of the Otago Gold Field known as the Mount Benger district, and comprising the Mount Benger gold field and that part of the Nokomai gold field bounded by the Spylass creek, Pomakaka river, and an imaginary line from the forks of said river to White Coomb peak; hence to Titan rocks; hence to Remarkable gap; hence to Rocky mount; hence to the Obelisk; and hence due east to the Clutha river.

BONUS FOR THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A WOOL-PACK AND SACK MANUFACTORY IN OTAGO.

THE Provincial Government being desirous of encouraging the manufacture of Wool-packs and Sacks, is prepared to receive offers from parties willing to embark in the enterprise, and is further prepared to pay a bonus of £1500 as under:—

On the erection of buildings and machinery to the value of at least £2000—£750.

On the production of Sacks or Wool-packs to a value of not less than £500—£400.

On the production of a further quantity of Sacks or Wool-packs to the value of not less than £1000—£350.

The cloth in each case to be produced by machinery permanently established in the Province, and to be manufactured either wholly or to a large extent from Phormium Tenax, or other indigenous plants, or from other material grown in the Province.

Offers will be received at the Provincial Government Offices, Dunedin, until the 1st of May, 1874, and should state the estimated cost and productive power of the machinery proposed to be erected, the date on which the same will be in operation, and that the parties are prepared to be bound in the sum of £1000 to produce sacks and wool-packs to the value of £1500 within three years from the date on which their offer is accepted.

The Government does not bind itself to accept any offer.

THE Otago Educational Board invites Applications for the office of Inspector of Schools. None need apply but University men of high standing and considerable experience in Education. Salary, £500 per annum, exclusive of travelling allowances.

These sheep are at present depastured in paddocks containing 4000 to 5000 acres of land, bounded on the north and west by dray road, valley road, on the east by Friston road, on the south by Totara property and Kakanui River to Clifton Falls.

TUAPEKA DEPASTURING DISTRICT.

Notice to Stockowners.

NOTICE is hereby given to persons depasturing sheep in the Tuapeka Depasturing District that it is the intention of the Government to subdivide the sheep country into Runs of 5000 acres each, the leases of which for seven years will be sold by public auction in January next, due notice of which will be given. Possession of the Runs to be given on the 1st April, 1874.

It is further notified that after that date no sheep will
