PUBLIC NOTIFICATION

In conformity to the 29th section of the "Gold Fields Act, 1866," and to the Regulations made under that Act, and the Gold Fields Acts Amendment Acts of 1867, 1868, and 1869, for the granting of leases for gold mining purposes within the Province of Otago, it is hereby notified that it is intended to grant a lease for gold mining purposes of Crown Lands to the applicant specified in the annexed Schedule, unless there shall be valid objections against granting such lease.

Objections to the granting of such lease, stating the grounds of objection, must be made in writing and lodged with the Warden at Lawrence on or before the 1st day of October, 1873.

Copy of the application made, and plans annexed, may be seen at the Warden’s Office at Lawrence.

Horace Lyne Squires on behalf of the Bruce Quartz Mining Company, Limited, for about 3 acres of land, being section 23, of block V, Table Hill Survey District.

DISPUTES RELATIVE TO DISTRICT ROADS

Applications will be received until the 26th instant from persons who would be willing to undertake on behalf of the Government the settlement of disputes between District Road Boards and the owners of property through which deviations of district roads were made prior to the election of district Boards under the Roads Ordinance 1871.

Information on the subject will be given on application at this office.

OFFICE HOURS AT PROVINCIAL GOVERNMENT OFFICES

It is hereby notified that for the months of September to March inclusive, the office hours at the Provincial Government Offices will be from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and from the 1st of April to the 31st August from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., excepting on Saturdays, when the hours will be from 9:30 a.m. to 12 o’clock.

BONUS FOR THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A WOOL-PACK AND SACK MANUFACTORY IN OTAGO

The Provincial Government being desirous of encouraging the manufacture of Wool-packs and Sacks, is prepared to receive offers from parties willing to embark in the enterprise, and is further prepared to pay a bonus of £1500 as under:

On the erection of buildings and machinery to the value of at least £2000...£750.

On the production of Sacks or Wool-packs to a value of not less than £500...£400.

On the production of a further quantity of Sacks or Wool-packs to the value of not less than £1000...£350.

The cloth in each case to be produced by machinery permanently established in the Province, and to be manufactured either wholly or to a large extent from Phormium Tenax, or other indigenous plants, or from other material grown in the Province.

Offers will be received at the Provincial Government Offices, Dunedin, until the 1st of May, 1874, and should state the estimated cost and productive power of the machinery proposed to be erected, the date on which the same will be in operation, and that the parties are prepared to be bound in the sum of £1000 to produce sacks and wool-packs to the value of £1500 within three years from the date on which their offer is accepted.

The Government does not bind itself to accept any offer.

Notice is hereby given, that Richard Cottar and party having failed to comply with the terms upon which they were allowed to occupy seven acres of land on Arrowtown flat, under a special grant, the same is cancelled, and the land open for occupation by holders of Miner’s Rights, &c.

Notice is hereby given, that the special claim of 10 acres of land granted to Mr. A. M’G. Brown, about a mile and a half from the Township of Naseby, has been cancelled, and the land is opened for occupation by holders of Miner’s Rights, &c.
