FIRES AND REWARDS
said fire was caused by some person or persons to the
furnace unknown, feloniously, wilfully, maliciously, with intent then and there to injure the said Joseph Rogers:
And whereas Mr Rogers has offered a reward of One Hundred Pounds for the detection of the originator of the fire.
Notice is hereby given, that a reward of One Hundred Pounds (supplemental to that offered by Mr Rogers) will be paid by the Provincial Government of Otago to any person who shall give such information as shall lead to the conviction of the person or persons by whom the said fire was caused; and His Excellency the Governor will be advised to grant a Free Pardon to an Accomplice, not being the person who actually caused the fire, as shall give such information as shall lead to a like result.

INCENDIARISM.
Feloniously Setting Fire to Three Stacks of Wheat and One Stack of Oats.
£100 Reward.
WHEREAS on the night of Monday, the 10th of March last, three Stacks of Wheat and one Stack of Oats, situate at Shag Valley, the property of Robert Steel, valued at £150, were destroyed by fire: And whereas at an inquest held at the Royal Hotel, Palmerston, on the 18th of that month, to inquire as to the origin of the said fire, the Jury returned the following verdict: "That on the night of Monday, the 10th of March, 1873, three stacks of Wheat and one Stack of Oats, the property of Robert Steel, were maliciously set on fire by some person or persons unknown." Notice is hereby given, that a Reward of One Hundred Pounds will be paid by the Provincial Government of Otago to any person who shall give such information as shall lead to the conviction of the person or persons by whom the said fire was caused; and His Excellency the Governor will be advised to grant a free pardon to an Accomplice, not being the person who actually caused the fire, as shall give such information as shall lead to a like result.

OTAUTAU RAILWAY.
TENDERS will be received at the office of the Secretary for Works until noon of Tuesday, 24th June, 1873, for Contract No. 742, for construction of three miles of light Railway between Riverton and Otautau.
Plans and Specifications may be seen, and forms of tender obtained, at the office of the Engineer of Roads and Works, Dunedin, and at the Court House, Riverton, on and after the 3rd June inst.
Tenders to be endorsed, "Otautau Railway, Tender for Contract No. 742."
The Government does not undertake to accept the lowest or any tender.

KURI BUSH ROAD BOARD.
Tenders wanted for certain works on Christie’s gully road and road to the cemetery. Specifications to be seen at the School-house, Otakia, and tenders lodged with the undersigned until noon of Wednesday, the 25th inst.

FENCING.
WANTED to let, from four to six miles of fencing, part sod and part post and wire; at the Mataura. For particulars apply to JOHN BROWN, Green Island.
WANTED, a Schoolmaster for the Wallace Town School. Salary: Government Subsidy and School fees, with 23 acres of land, free house containing five rooms. Applications with testimonials to be sent in to the Rev. A. Stevens, Chairman of School Committee; on or before the 1st July.

TO SURVEYORS.
WANTED, an experienced Surveyor, to take charge of the Aparima and Waiau Survey District, Southland. Applications, stating qualifications, to be forwarded to the Chief Surveyor, Dunedin; or the Inspector of Surveys, Invercargill. Surveyor will be paid by an acreage fee on all land purchased in his district. The following is a description of the areas of survey requiring to be completed:
- Twenty sections, containing 4897 acres; fees with travelling expenses added, come to £252 9s.
- Also three bush reserves, containing 969 acres; survey fees, £91 14s.
In addition to this work, the adjoining district surveyor, who has more work on hand than he can complete, will transfer surveys in the Invercargill survey district:
- Eleven sections, containing 2594 acres; survey fees, £136 4s 3d; seven Bush Reserves, containing 2252 acres; survey fees, £256 12s 8d.
Making a total of surveys to be completed, 10,243 acres; survey fees, £737 0s 8d.
WASTE LAND BOARD ADVERTISEMENTS:

MILL SITE ON WAIMUMU AND MATAURA RIVERS.
25 ACRES of the Government Reserve at the Mataura Falls on the Southland side of the Mataura will be open for application at the Land Office, Invercargill, on the 23rd day of June next. The land is bounded on the south-east by the Waimumu stream and the road reserve on the Mataura; on the south-west by the lignite reserve; on the north-west by a public road; and on the north-east by a line at right angles to the north-west boundary to include the required area, as the same shall be more particularly described after survey.
