IT is hereby notified that a Writ issued for the election of a person to serve as a member of the Provincial Council for the District of Waihopai, in place of John Blacklock, Esq., resigned, has been duly returned with a certificate dated 18th January, 1873, to the effect that William Wood, Esquire, has been duly returned.

PROCLAMATION
Appointing certain Roads in the Myross and Mabel Sub-divisions of the Lindhurst Road District to be Main District Roads.
By His Honor James Macandrew, Esquire, Superintendent of the Province of Otago.
WHEREAS by the “Otago Roads Ordinance 1871,” it is provided that upon the application of the Road Board of any road district the Superintendent may from time to time, if it shall seem fit so to do, by proclamation appoint that any roads or parts of roads, whether within or upon the boundary of such district, shall be main roads or main district roads: And whereas the Road Board for the Lindhurst road district have applied to me, James Macandrew, Superintendent of the Province of Otago, to appoint the roads hereinafter described to be main district roads.
Now therefore I, James Macandrew, Superintendent of the Province of Otago, by virtue and in exercise of the powers in this behalf vested in me by the said “Otago Roads Ordinance 1871,” do hereby appoint the following roads, situate within or upon the boundaries of the Lindhurst Road District aforesaid, to be main district roads, that is to say:
1st. The Mabel road, commencing at the eastern boundary of the Myross sub-division of the Lindhurst road district, at the south-west corner of section 13, block IX, Invercargill Hundred; and running eastward through blocks IX, X, and XI of said Hundred to the northernmost corner of section 52 of the aforesaid block XI; then extending through blocks II and IV of the Mabel Hundred, terminating at the north-west corner of section 14 of block IV, Mabel Hundred aforesaid.
2nd. The Mill road, commencing at the Waihopai stream (being part of the south boundary of the Myross sub-division of the Lindhurst Road District), and forming the southern boundary of block V, Invercargill Hundred; the said road extending from the Waihopai stream due north to the north-west corner of section 52, block V aforesaid.
3rd. The Bridge Inn road, commencing at the Main Dunedin road (being part of the south boundary of the Myross sub-division of the Lindhurst road district) at the south-west corner of section 16, block V, Invercargill Hundred, and running due north till it joins the Mabel road, about 4 chains from the south-west corner of section 2, block XI, Invercargill Hundred.
4th. The Woodlands road, being the road forming the sub-division line between the Myross and Mabel sub-divisions of the Lindhurst road district; extending from the Main Dunedin road at the south-east corner of section 41, block VI, Invercargill Hundred, to the northern corner of section 52, block XI of the aforesaid Hundred, where it joins the Mabel road.
5th. The Half-way Bush road, extending from the Mabel district road in section 38, block XI, Invercargill Hundred, and running eastward through section 28 and block II, and blocks XXXVI and LIX of the Mabel Hundred, till it joins the road running due north through block LIX aforesaid from the Daere township; then extending southwardly along the last mentioned road to the township of Daere aforesaid.
Given under my hand, and issued under the public seal of the Province of Otago, at Dunedin, this twenty-fourth day of January, one thousand eight hundred and seventy-three.

PROCLAMATION
Extending part of “The Municipal Corporations Act 1867” to the Municipality of Palmerston.
By His Honor James Macandrew, Esquire, Superintendent of the Province of Otago.
WHEREAS by an Act of the General Assembly of New Zealand, intituled “The Municipal Corporations Act 1867,” it is enacted that it should be lawful for the Superintendent of any Province, by proclamation in the Government Gazette of such Province published, to declare that any complete parts of the several parts of the said Act, numbered from two to twenty-two inclusive, as he should consider applicable, should extend and be applied to any city, town, or place in such Province, incorporated at the time of the passing of the said Act under any Act or Ordinance of the Legislature of such Province; and in such proclamation to fix a time at which such parts, or any of them, should extend to any such city, town or place: And whereas the said Act has been amended by “The Municipal Corporations Act Amendment Act 1871,” and made to extend to places incorporated under “The Otago Municipal Corporations Ordinance 1865” after the passing of the said Act: And whereas it is expedient that the hereinafter mentioned part of the said first mentioned Act should be extended and applied to the town of Palmerston, in the Province of Otago, a town incorporated after the passing of the said Act.
Now therefore I, James Macandrew, Superintendent of the Province of Otago, by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said Province, and in exercise and in pursuance of the power vested in me in this behalf do hereby proclaim and declare that from
