PROCLAMATION
Of the Division of Caversham Road District into Subdivisions and Wards.
WHEREAS by the eighth section of the “Otago Roads Ordinance 1871” it is enacted that at any time after the first annual election or general election as the case may be of the District Board for any Road District the Superintendent if he shall have received a petition to that effect signed by one-fourth or more of the number of persons liable to be rated under the said Ordinance in respect of rateable property in such district shall by proclamation divide the district into two or more separate subdivisions, and may also divide any such subdivision into three wards in manner provided by the said Ordinance. And whereas by the twelfth section of the said Ordinance it is further enacted that the members of the District Board who shall be in office in a district at the time when the same shall be divided into subdivisions shall be severally assigned by the Superintendent to the said subdivisions. And whereas I James Macandrew Superintendent of the Province of Otago have received a petition signed by more than one-fourth of the persons liable to be rated under the said Ordinance in respect of rateable property in the Caversham Road District praying for the subdivision of the said district in manner hereinbefore appearing:
Now therefore I James Macandrew Superintendent of the Province of Otago aforesaid in exercise of the powers conferred upon me in this behalf do hereby proclaim and divide the Caversham Road District into three subdivisions that is to say
First—
Higher Caversham Subdivision which comprises that part of Caversham Road District which is bounded towards the north by the Mornington Road District towards the east by section 11 block VI Town Survey District and by a line proceeding in a southerly direction along the centre of the Forbury road to the Ocean beach towards the south by the Ocean and towards the west by Corstorphine Road District.
Second—
Middle Caversham Subdivision which comprises all that part of the Caversham Road District which is bounded towards the north and east by the district boundary towards the south by a line along the centre of Hillside road extending from the eastern boundary of section 8 block VII Town Survey District to the Forbury road and towards the west by Higher Caversham Subdivision before described.
Third—
Lower Caversham Subdivision which comprises the remaining part of the Caversham Road District and is bounded towards the north by Middle Caversham Subdivision towards the east by the boundary of the Road District towards the south by the Ocean and towards the west by Higher Caversham Subdivision.
And I do hereby further divide each of the hereinbefore described subdivisions into three wards that is to say
First—
Wards in Higher Caversham Subdivision.

North Ward comprising that part of Higher Caversham Subdivision which is situated north of a line along the centre of the Main South Road.

St Andrew’s Ward comprising that part of Higher Caversham Subdivision which is bounded towards the north by North Ward towards the east by Middle Caversham Subdivision towards
