GAZETTE.—Each person who fails to get the ‘Gazette’ regularly will please send at once to the undersigned the name of the Post Office to which the ‘Gazette’ should be sent, as it is believed that in most cases the neglect to put the Post Office after the name and address of the person is the main cause why the ‘Gazette’ does not reach its destination sometimes.

GAZETTE.—There were two Gazettes published Wednesday, 11th December, 1872.


IMMIGRANTS’ PASSAGE-MONEY.—Notice to Assisted Immigrants who arrived in the Province before the year 1869.

All immigrants who have arrived in the Province by ships prior to those referred to in the notice hereunder, and who have not paid their passage-money, are requested to do so at once by remitting same to me. Proceedings will be taken to recover in all cases of non-payment. When necessary the time for payment will be extended.—JOHN LOGAN, Immigration Agent.


IMMIGRATION MONEY.—Assisted immigrants by the ships which arrived during 1869, 1870, and 1871, are requested to forward to John Logan, Immigration Agent, Dunedin, the amount of their passage Money. Proceedings will be taken to recover all cases of non-payment without further notice.


MUNICIPAL CORPORATION OF PORT CHALMERS.

BYE-LAW No. 1.

Bye-law of the Council of the Town of Port Chalmers, made under Part XIII of the “Municipal Corporations Act 1867.”

In pursuance of the powers and provisions contained in section 181, part XIII, of the “Municipal Corporations Act 1867,” the Council of the Town of Port Chalmers ordain as follows, that is to say:—

1st. The whole of the subdivisions of the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 8th, 9th and 11th parts, and subdivisions 1 and 2 of the 7th part, and subdivisions 2, 3, 4 and 5 of the 10th part of the 13th Schedule of the said Act are hereby adopted in and for the said Town of Port Chalmers, and for and on behalf of the said Corporation.

2nd. The following Bye-laws heretofore existing are hereby repealed, that is to say:—

The Bye-law numbered 1, intituled “A Bye-law to regulate the driving of horses and horned cattle through the town of Port Chalmers.”

The Bye-law numbered 2, intituled “A Bye-law to prevent the stacking of hay or straw, and to regulate the storage of the same within the town of Port Chalmers.”

The Bye-law numbered 3, intituled “A Bye-law for compelling the removal of waste water and impurities from cellars and other places within the town of Port Chalmers.”

The Bye-law numbered 4, intituled “A Bye-law to prevent the mischiefs arising from the making of fires in the open air in the town of Port Chalmers.”

The Bye-law numbered 5, intituled “A Bye-law to prevent the mischiefs arising from fires in chimney flues in the town of Port Chalmers.”

The Bye-law numbered 6, intituled “A Bye-law to prohibit rubbish or other matter being deposited within the town of Port Chalmers excepting at the places determined upon by the Town Council.”

The Bye-law numbered 7, intituled “A Bye-law to regulate the sale by weight or measure of marketable commodities within the town of Port Chalmers, and to define the hours during which certain of such commodities may be exposed for sale.”

The Bye-law numbered 8, intituled “A Bye-law for the licensing and regulating Waggons and other vehicles, and the owners, drivers, and conductors thereof; and for regulating the sale and exposure for sale of hay, straw, coals, firewood and water within the town of Port Chalmers.”

The Bye-law numbered 9, intituled “Crossing over footways and channels, save by made crossings.”

The Bye-law numbered 10, intituled “Hoarding and fence.”

The Bye-law numbered 11, intituled “Regulation of proceedings of Council, Officers, &c.”

Made by the Council of the town of Port Chalmers, this 4th day of November, 1872.

BYE-LAW No. 2.

Bye-Law of the Council of the town of Port Chalmers, made under section 186 of the “Municipal Corporations Act 1867.”

A Bye-Law to provide for the better Rule and Government of the town of Port Chalmers.

In pursuance of the powers and provisions contained in section 186 of part XIII of the “Municipal Corporations Act 1867,” the Council of the town of Port Chalmers ordain as follows, that is to say:—

Any person guilty of any of the following offences, omissions, or neglects within the town of Port Chalmers, shall on being convicted of any such offence, neglect, or omission be liable to pay any penalty not exceeding forty shillings for first offence, and not exceeding five pounds for any subsequent offence:

1st. Throwing any glass, filth, dirt, rubbish or other matter of a similar nature upon any street, footway, court, alley, or public place whatsoever.

2nd. Riding, driving, leading or wheeling any barrow, cart, dray or carriage upon or along any footpath without permission from the Town Council to do so.

3rd. Placing any timber, bricks, stones or other building materials, upon any footway, channel, surface drain, or carriage road, without such permission as aforesaid.

4th. Burning any shavings, straw, or other materials or matter upon any footway, carriage road, or open or public place, without such permission as aforesaid.

5th. Leaving any inflammable materials or matter in any public shed or place or on any open space near any building, without such permission as aforesaid.

6th. Drawing or trailing any sledge, timber, or other material, upon any footway or carriage road, to the injury of such footway or carriage road.

7th. Carting away any night soil, or other offensive matter, without having a license from the Town Council of Port Chalmers so to do.

8th. Allowing any night-soil or other offensive matter to be spilt or otherwise cast on to or upon any road, street, footway, public place, or thoroughfare.
