Educational Prizes.

THE DIRECTORS have resolved to offer the following
Prizes, to be competed for by Children attending
any of the Elementary Schools in the Province, viz:

A first prize of £2; a second prize of £1; a third prize
of 15s; and fourth prize of 10s;—for excellence in
each of the following subjects, viz:—

1. Scottish History, from the Accession of Alexander
   III. to the Battle of Flodden. Text books—the ordinary
   School Histories, and “Tales of a Grandfather.”

2. Recitation—English or Scotch (not less than 16
   lines).

3. Arithmetic as far as Fractions: Text-books, the
   usual School Arithmetics.

4. English Grammar—Analysis of a piece to be
   selected by the Judges.

Extra Prize—A Gold Medal presented by K. Ramsay,
Esq., President of the Society, for General Excellence
in the competition.

A handsome copy of one of the Scottish Poets; pre-
sented by T. Callander, Esq., for the best recitation of
the “Wee, Wee German Lairdie.” Competition for
this prize is open to all Schools.
