ISLANDS ON CLUTHA.—Sections 17 and 18, block XXII, Clutha District, containing 26a 0r 16p and 2a 2r 20p, will be offered for sale by public auction by Mr. Capstick, at the Crown Hotel, Balclutha, on Tuesday, the 3rd day of September, 1872, at noon, as land of special value, at the upset price of 21s per acre, subject to the repayment of survey expenses of £8 8s.

NOTICE is hereby given that the following sections will be offered for sale by public auction, at Mr. Capstick’s auction rooms, Tokomairiro, on Monday the 9th day of September, 1872, at noon, at the upset price of 10s. per acre, subject to repayment of survey expenses set opposite each:—

NOTICE is hereby given that section 87, block III, Waitahuna West, containing 102a. 3r. 30p., (being centre part of Island on Clutha River, opposite Mr. James Smith’s station,) will be offered for sale by public auction, at Mr. Capstick’s Auction Rooms, Tokomairiro, on Monday, the 16th day of September next, at noon, at the upset price of 21s. per acre.


MONDAY, the 30th day of September, at Noon.

NOTICE is hereby given that section 7, block IV, Clarendon, containing 152a 1r 32p, and sections 1 of 16, 2 of 16, 17, 18, 22, and 36, block III, and 13, block IV, Kaitangata district, containing respectively 107a 2r 2p, 40a, 235a 2r 22p, 169a 0r 23p, 154a 0r 6p, 106a 1r, and 119a 0r 30p, will be offered for sale by public auction at Mr. Capstick’s auction room, on Monday, the 30th day of September next, at noon, at the upset price of 10s per acre.

Immediately thereafter, section 2, block XVI, Waihola district, containing 51 acres, will be offered at the upset price of £1 per acre, and section 52, block I, Clarendon, containing 36 acres, formerly part of bush reserve, section 4 block I, at the upset price of 21s per acre, as land of special value.


STEWART ISLAND will be open for application for Mineral Leases under the provisions of the "Southland Waste Lands Amendment Act 1867," on and after the 9th August next.


NOTICE to Runholders.—The Lessees and Licensees of Runs within the Land District of Invercargill, will please to forward to the District Land Office, Invercargill, the Return of Stock ordered by the Waste Land Act to be made during September, and to pay the Assessment due thereon to the Receiver of Land Revenue there, on 1st October, 1872.

THE undermentioned License holders were elected Wardens for the Jacob’s River Hundred, for the current year, at a meeting convened for the purpose, at the School-house, Flint’s Bush, the 5th day of August, 1872, viz:—

BY-LAWS OF JACOB’S RIVER HUNDRED.

  1. That no cattle of any description be depastured on the Jacob’s River Hundred without a license.

  2. That no sheep shall be depastured on any lands within the Hundred, under the jurisdiction of the Wardens.

  3. No entire horse over twelve months old, and no bull over six months old, or bull stags shall be depasturing without special permission of the Wardens.

  4. Any person disturbing or harassing stock depastured on the Hundred, shall forfeit and pay for every such offence any sum not exceeding £5; provided always that a holder of a depasturing license within the Hundred, or any person duly authorised in his behalf may drive such stock for the purpose of collecting such as belong to him or her, and for the free and legitimate use of his or her right of pasturage within the Hundred; but in the event of its being necessary for such purpose to drive any stock belonging to any other person, a greater distance than half a mile, the person so driving such stock must take them to the nearest stockyard, and there separate his own from those of any other person, and return the latter to the place from which they were driven, and failing to do so shall forfeit and pay for every such offence, any sum not exceeding £5.

  5. That no person shall be allowed to depasture on the Hundred, more than one head of cattle for every six (6) acres of land in his occupation, and all cattle depastured must be branded with the registered brand of the license-holder.

  6. All stray cattle or sheep may be impounded, and the Wardens will not be responsible for any mistake which may arise through cattle not bearing brands according to the Cattle Branding Ordinance.

  7. All license-holders shall, on or before the 13th day of September, 1872, give in a written statement to the nearest Warden, of the number of horses and cattle with their respective brands, depastured by them on said Hundred.

  8. That any sheep running upon unenclosed land in said Hundred, shall be removed within twenty-one days of publication of the said by-laws; also any cattle not being the property of license-holders shall, if not removed within the same period, be impounded and dealt with according to law.
