Otago Provincial Gazette, the polling places for the respective districts and subdivisions of districts therein mentioned, under and by virtue of the "Otago Roads Ordinance 1871," were duly fixed and appointed until the same shall be altered or varied: And whereas it is expedient that the polling places in the districts and subdivisions of districts aforementioned should be altered:

Now therefore I, William Alexander Thomson, Esquire, Deputy-Superintendent of the Province of Otago, do hereby revoke the appointment of the polling places for the districts and subdivisions aforementioned made by the notices and appointment dated the 18th day of June, 1872, and in lieu thereof do hereby appoint the places aforementioned to be the polling places for the respective districts and subdivisions of districts aforementioned at which the poll shall be taken at all elections under the "Otago Roads Ordinance 1871":

District ... Polling Place.

WAITAKI ... Papakaio Subdivision—Papakaio Schoolhouse.

NORTH-EAST VALLEY ... Pine Hill Subdivision—The Cattle Market Hotel, N.E. Valley.

CLUTHA ... Akatore Subdivision—The house of Mr. John Pearson.

WAIHOLA ... Glenaven Subdivision—Messrs. Blues and Dunthie’s Store.

Given under my hand, and issued under the Public Seal of the Province of Otago, this sixteenth day of July, 1872.

"OTAGO ROADS ORDINANCE, 1871," AND "THE OTAGO ROADS ORDINANCE AMENDMENT ORDINANCE, 1872."

Appointment of First Election Days.

WHEREAS by "The Otago Roads Ordinance, 1871," and "The Otago Roads Ordinance Amendment Ordinance, 1872," it is provided that the first election of members of the District Board in every district and subdivision of district shall take place and be held on such day as the Superintendent shall appoint:

Now therefore I, James Macandrew, Superintendent of the Province of Otago, do hereby appoint the several days hereinafter specified, at twelve o’clock noon, for the first election of members of the District Board for the several districts and subdivisions hereinafter mentioned respectively, to be elected under and by virtue of the said recited Ordinances.

NOTICE

I, Charles Smith, Returning Officer for the Districts aforementioned do hereby, in terms of the 96th section of "The Otago Roads Ordinance 1871," require all candidates to be nominated in the manner and at such times and places as are above set forth. And I do hereby give notice that in the event of a Poll being demanded, notice of the day on which such Poll shall be held will be given in each case immediately upon such demand being made.

The following extracts from the "Otago Roads Ordinance 1871" respecting nominations of candidates are published for general information:

"Section 96 - Every candidate shall be proposed by an elector duly qualified to vote at the election and seconded by another elector so qualified and if there be no more candidates proposed and seconded than the number of members then to be elected, the Returning Officer shall declare such candidates to be duly elected."
