Under that Act and the Gold Fields Acts Amendment Acts of 1867, 1868, and 1869, for the granting of leases for gold mining purposes within the Province of Otago, it is hereby notified that it is intended to grant a lease for gold mining purposes of Crown Lands to the applicant specified in the annexed Schedule, unless there shall be valid objections against granting such lease.

Objections to the granting of such lease, stating the grounds of objection, must be made in writing and lodged with the Warden at Lawrence, on or before the 22nd day of May, 1872.

Copy of the application made, and plans annexed, may be seen at the Warden’s Office, at Lawrence.

Given under my hand, at Dunedin, this sixth day of May, one thousand eight hundred and seventy-two.

SCHEDULE.

James Campbell and Edwin Ellis for the Caledonian Gold Mining Company, for 8 acres of land, more or less, as the same may be found after survey to be contained within the pegs and trenches of the applicants. Situated at the head of Caledonian Gully, Blue Spur, and joining on to Clark’s leasehold, northern boundary.


PUBLIC NOTIFICATION.

I

In conformity to the 29th Section of the “Gold Fields Act 1866,” and to the Regulations made under that Act and the Gold Fields Acts Amendment Acts of 1867, 1868, and 1869, for the granting of leases for gold mining purposes within the Province of Otago, it is hereby notified that it is intended to grant a lease for gold mining purposes of Crown Lands to the applicant specified in the annexed Schedule, unless there shall be valid objections against granting such lease.

SCHEDULE.

Peter Spairs for the Hibernian Crushing Company, for 16a 2r of land, more or less, as the same may be found after survey to be contained within the pegs and trenches of the applicants. Situated at the head of Caledonian Gully, and joining the northern boundary of Campbell and Ellis’ application.


PUBLIC NOTICE.

Under Section 1, Regulation IV.

WHEREAS I have received sufficient proof that the portion of the Otago Goldfield described in the Schedule hereto, is for the whole or the greater part of an inferior character as regards the value of its gold deposits: Now therefore I hereby give notice that the same may be occupied by holders of Miners’ Rights in claims of the undermentioned size, viz.:

One (1) acre for each holder of a Miner’s Right, provided that no block claim shall comprise more than six (6) acres altogether.

Given under my hand, at Naseby, this second day of May, one thousand eight hundred and seventy-two.

SCHEDULE.

All that portion of the Otago Goldfield, comprising two acres, more or less, and contained in the following boundaries, viz.:—That block of land, 120 yards square, situated at the head of Boxton’s Gully, Hogburn, and bounded on the east, west, and south by worked ground; and on the north by the Band of Hope Company’s Water-race.

NOTICE is hereby given, that J. E. Glover having withdrawn his application for a Mining Lease of 16 acres of land at Dunback Creek, Shag Valley, the said land is now open for occupation by holders of Miners’ Rights.

It is hereby notified that a Writ, issued for the election of two persons to serve as Members of the Provincial Council for the Lakes District, has been duly returned, with a certificate, dated 26th April last, to the effect that Alexander Innes, Esq., and Bendix Hallenstein, Esq., have been duly elected.

Of Impounding Notices:

17th May, Friday, noon: Nine cows, two calves, two heifers, and five steers will be sold at Lawrence Pound.

17th May, Friday, noon: One cow, one calf, two heifers, and one steer will be sold at Papakaio Pound.

17th May, Friday, noon: One cow and one steer will be sold at Hawksbury Pound.

TENDERS will be received at the Office of the Secretary for Land and Works until noon of Friday, 10th May, for carting off mud from Maclaggan Street through Dunedin.

Plans and specifications may be seen, and forms of tender obtained, at the office of the Engineer of Roads and Works, Dunedin.

Tenders to be endorsed “Roads and Works, Tender for Contract No. 641.”

The Government does not undertake to accept the lowest or any tender.


TENDERS will be received at the office of the Secretary for Works, until noon of Friday, 24th May, for Contract No. 479 — Construction of a Stone and Iron Bridge over the Paiwata Stream, Main South Road.

Plans and specifications may be seen, and forms of tender obtained, at the office of the Engineer of Roads and Works, Dunedin; and at the Police Station, Balclutha.

Tenders to be endorsed “Roads and Works, Tender for Contract No. 479.”

The Government does not undertake to accept the lowest or any tender.

BROAD BAY ROAD BOARD.

Tenders wanted for repairs on road line from Mr. M’Lennan’s to Broad Bay. Mr. M’Lennan will show the above work on the 16th instant, at 12 o’clock. Also, repairs on road from Mr. Stewart’s to the Lime Kiln. Mr. Stewart will show the work same day as above, at 2 o’clock.
