EDUCATION RESERVES.
THE following Reserves will be leased by auction at the Land Office, Dunedin, immediately after the sale of Crown Land there, on Friday, the 17th May, 1872:
Section 1 of 53, block IV, Managatua, 40 acres

" 2 of 30, block II " 40 "
The lease of the last-mentioned Section will be sold subject to valuation for improvements.
Copies of Regulations and Condition of Lease may be had on application at the Education Office.

UNIVERSITY OF OTAGO.
(AMENDED NOTICE.)
THE SESSION for 1872, will be opened on Wednesday, 1st May, with an Introductory Lecture (open to the Public), by Professor Black, at 7 p.m.
On the two days following, the Matriculation Examinations will be held, beginning at 10 a.m.
On Monday, 6th May, the different classes will be opened as follows:
Latin, 8 a.m.: Professor Sale, M.A.
Greek and English, 9 a.m. Do
Latin, 10 a.m. Do
Greek, 11 a.m. Do
Mathematics, 4.30 p.m.: Professor Shand, M.A.
Natural Philosophy, 5.30 p.m. Do
Chemistry and Mineralogy, 2 p.m. and 7.30 p.m.: Professor Black, M.A., D.Sc.
Logic, 6.30 p.m.: Professor M’Gregor, M.A.
Moral Philosophy, 7.30 p.m. Do

UNIVERSITY OF OTAGO.
Richardson Scholarship.
THE Competition for the Richardson Scholarship will take place in the first week of May.
The subjects for examination, with the marks showing the relative value attached to each, are the following:
English, 100; Arithmetic, 150; Geometry, Euclid Books I and II, 100; Algebra, 100; Latin 200; Greek, 100; Geography and History of England, from the Revolution to the Accession of Queen Victoria, 100; Natural Science, 100; French, 50.
Competitors must have attended for two years some Provincial School, and for one year the High School of Dunedin; and their age must not be over 18.
The Scholarship is tenable for three years, and the value is about £30 per annum.
The names of competitors must be sent in to the Secretary of University Council before 1st May.
Scholarship for the University of Otago.
THE undermentioned Scholarships will be open for competition to students for the ministry of the Presbyterian Church of Otago and Southland, at competitive examinations to be held in the Class Room of Knox Church, Dunedin, on the 30th day of April prox., 10 o’clock a.m.

The Lang Scholarship.—£20 per annum for two years; open to students who have already attended one year at any university. Subjects of examination, and marks for each:
- Latin.—Virgil, Georgics, Book I—100.
- Greek.—Homer’s Iliad, Book I—100.
- Mathematics.—Euclid, Books I, II and III—75.
- Algebra.—Simple and Quadratic Equations—75.
- English Literature and History.—Reign of Queen Elizabeth—100.

Roma History.—Century preceding Christ’s Advent—100.
Total marks—550.

The Synod Scholarship.—£30 per annum for three years; open to students who have not yet attended any university. Subjects of examination and marks for each:
- Latin.—Cicero, De Amicitia—100.
- Greek.—Elements of Grammar—50.
- Mathematics.—Euclid, Books I and II—100.
- Arithmetic.—General—100.
- History.—Period of George III—100.
- Bible Knowledge.—General knowledge of Gospels—100.
- English Grammar and Analysis—100.
Total marks—650.
Two-thirds at least of the total number of marks must be obtained to entitle any competitor to a Scholarship.

Currie, Papakaio, one roan cow, branded like heart off shoulder, 1 off side, 3 off rump, two holes near ear, owner unknown, for trespassing on wheat stacks and breaking fences, for which £1 damages is claimed, and in default of being released, the above cow will be sold at the public pound at Papakaio, on Friday, the 10th day of May, 1872, at 12 o’clock noon.—James Dalgleish, Poundkeeper of the Papakaio Pound.

on the 15th April, 1872, by James Hamilton, one bay colt, near fore foot white, star and snip, and one bay filly, both branded 2 off shoulder, owner unknown, for trespassing on farm, damaging stacks and breaking fences, for which £2 damages per head is claimed, and in default of being released, the above horses will be sold at the public pound at Haye’s Lake, on Friday, the 10th May, 1872, at 12 o’clock noon.—W.
