IN Consequence of no School Committee having been elected, His Honor the Superintendent has fixed Monday, the 25th day of March, 1872, at seven o’clock p.m., for the election of a School Committee in each of the following mentioned districts, viz.—Cromwell, Arrow, Bluff, Trotter’s Creek, Flint’s Bush, and Hampden. The meeting in each district will be held in the Schoolhouse. See “Education Ordinance 1864,” section 15.

REGULATIONS for the Introduction of Immigrants into New Zealand on the nomination of persons resident in the Colony:—

Each applicant will be required to pay, at the time of making the application, the sum of £5 for each adult (except single women) and £2 10s. for each child between the ages of one and twelve years, whom it is desired to have introduced into the Colony. Infants in arms, under one year free. This rate being only for the ship passage from London (or such other port as the ship may sail from) to the Colony, the cost of reaching such port of sailing in Europe and proceeding up the country to their friends after arrival in the Colony, will have to be defrayed by the Emigrants themselves.

Free passages will be granted to single women between the ages of 12 and 35, provided they are able to produce proof of good character to the satisfaction of the Agent-General in London.

In the event of any emigrants applied for declining to emigrate, whatever money may have been deposited with the Government will be returned to the applicants so soon as the Agent-General in England shall have apprised the Government thereof; but in the event of any emigrants applied for accepting the offer of a passage in a particular ship, and so, by failing to present themselves for embarkation at the time and port appointed by the Agent-General in England for the sailing of such ship, be left behind, the passage money and passages will be forfeited.

Applicants in the Colony, when writing to the persons for whose passages they have applied, should distinctly inform them that no part of the passage money paid in the Colony will be returned, if they omit to write to the Agent-General in London, telling him that they decline the passages offered to them.

All the ships employed in this service will be under the provisions of the “Passenger Act.”

Notwithstanding anything herein to the contrary, the Agent-General in London will have power to refuse passages where the intending emigrants are in ill-health, or in any way unfitted, according to his judgment, to undertake the voyage.

Forms of Application may be obtained at any Post Office in the Colony, but passage moneys can only be paid at any Money Order Post Office in the Colony.

FINAL NOTICE.
PORTOBELLO Road Board.—Notice is hereby given that the rate is payable to me at my house; but for the convenience of those at a distance, I shall attend at the School-house Portobello, on Saturday, the 23rd inst., from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.; and notice is hereby further given that all rates not paid by the 2nd April, legal proceedings will be taken without any other notice whatever, to recover the same.—WILLIAM DICKSON, Clerk to the Board, Portobello, 5th March, 1872.
IMPOUNDED on the 22nd February, 1872, by Mr. John Rogerson, one yellow cow, calf at foot, no visible brand, one red heifer, like W near rump, one red heifer, R off rump, one red and white steer, like C B near rump, owner unknown, for trespassing on oat crop on the farm of Mr. Patton, Kakanui; for which 2s 6d per head damages is claimed, and in default of being released, the above cattle will be sold at the public pound at Oamaru, on Friday the 15th March, 1872, at 12 o’clock noon.—FREDK. IMPOUNDED on the 13th February, 1872, by J. C. Anderson, one black heifer with calf at foot, brand invisible, one brown heifer, brand like M K on off ribs, owner unknown, for trespassing on grass paddock and turnip field, for which 5s damages is claimed, and in default of being released, the above cattle will be sold at the public pound at Inch Clutha, on Friday the 15th March, 1872, at 12 o’clock noon.—F. IMPOUNDED, at Waitahuna West, on the 27th day of February, 1872, by James Smith, the under-mentioned horses:—One dark bay Cob, aged, S in circle, near shoulder; one grey Cob, aged, G off neck; one chestnut colt, 2 years, JB near shoulder; one brown Mare, aged, trident near shoulder; one bay Mare, aged, C near shoulder, MG off shoulder; for trespassing on run, for which no damages are claimed, and in default of being released, the above horses will be sold at the Public Pound, Waitahuna West, on Friday, the 22nd day of March, 1872, at 12 o’clock noon.—PETER SCOTT, Poundkeeper, Waitahuna West.
IMPOUNDED on the second day of March, 1872, by Mr. John Morris, Blueskin, one brown Filly, white face, branded like I D on the near rump, and like anchor on the near shoulder, owner unknown, for trespassing on grass paddock belonging to Mr. Morris; and in default of being released, the above Filly will be sold at the Public Pound at Blueskin, on Friday, the 22nd day of March, 1872, at 12 o’clock noon.—J. IMPOUNDED on the 1st March, 1872, by Mr. John Andrew, North Taieri, one bay horse, blotch brand near side under saddle, star in forehead, saddle and collar marked, owner unknown, for trespassing on Mr. Andrew’s paddock, for which 10s damages is claimed, and in default of being released, the above horse will be sold at the public pound at East Taieri, on Friday, the 22nd March, 1872, at 12 o’clock noon.—JAS. IMPOUNDED, on the 28th day of February 1872, by John Irving, Ranger, one old cow, branded like horseshoe off rump, colored red and white, owner unknown, for which no damage is claimed; and in default of being released, the above cow will be sold at the Public Pound, Tokomairiro, on the twenty-second day of March, 1872, at twelve o’clock noon.—JAS.
