REGULATIONS for the Introduction of Immigrants into New Zealand on the nomination of persons resident in the Colony:—

Each applicant will be required to pay, at the time of making the application, the sum of £5 for each adult (except single women) and £2 0s. for each child between the ages of one and twelve years, whom it is desired to have introduced into the Colony. Infants in arms, under one year free. This rate being only for the ship passage from London (or such other port as the ship may sail from) to the Colony, the cost of reaching such port of sailing in Europe and proceeding up the country to their friends after arrival in the Colony, will have to be defrayed by the Emigrants themselves.

Free passages will be granted to single women between the ages of 12 and 35, provided they are able to produce proof of good character to the satisfaction of the Agent-General in London.

In the event of any emigrants applied for declining to emigrate, whatever money may have been deposited with the Government will be returned to the applicants so soon as the Agent-General in England shall have apprised the Government thereof; but in the event of any emigrants applied for accepting the offer of a passage in a particular ship, and so, by failing to present themselves for embarkation at the time and port appointed by the Agent-General in England for the sailing of such ship, be left behind, the passage money and passages will be forfeited.

Applicants in the Colony, when writing to the persons for whose passages they have applied, should distinctly inform them that no part of the passage money paid in the Colony will be returned, if they omit to write to the Agent-General in London, telling him that they decline the passages offered to them.

All the ships employed in this service will be under the provisions of the “Passenger Act.”

Notwithstanding anything herein to the contrary, the Agent-General in London will have power to refuse passages where the intending emigrants are in ill-health, or in any way unfitted, according to his judgment, to undertake the voyage.

Forms of Application may be obtained at any Post Office in the Colony, but passage moneys can only be paid at any Money Order Post Office in the Colony.

LABOR MARKET.
NOTICE to Employers of Labor and Persons who wish to obtain Employment.—A Register is kept at each of the Police Stations in the Province, in which employers of labor are requested to enter their names when wanting to engage servants, giving particulars as to the class they wish to employ, the period for which they wish to engage them, and the rate of wages they propose to pay.
The members of the Police force in charge of the Stations have been instructed to afford every possible information on the subject to men wishing to obtain employment, &c.
IMMIGRATION MONEY.—Assisted Immigrants
By the undernamed Ships are requested to forward to John Logan, Immigration Agent, Dunedin, the amount of their Passage Money. Proceedings will be taken to recover in all cases of non-payment without further notice.
WAREPA Road Board
The precept authorising the levying of the highway rate 1871-2 having been issued, ratepayers are requested to pay the amount of their respective rates to me, at my house, on or before 1st March, 1872.—D. P. MILNE, collector.

JACOB’S RIVER Road District.
The precept for the collection of highway rate for 1871-2 having been issued, ratepayers are requested to pay the amount of their respective rates to me, at my house, Steven’s Bush, on or before the 12th February, 1872. For the convenience of ratepayers I will attend at Gummie’s Bush School-house, on Saturday, 3rd February, 1872, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.—A. CASSELLS, Clerk and Collector.
EDUCATION BOARD SCHOLARSHIPS
Maximum number of marks attainable; and the Board shall be at liberty to suspend or terminate any Scholarship on account of wilful misconduct or neglect of studies on the part of the holder.

Each holder of a Provincial Scholarship, in addition to a free education at the High School, shall receive free board and lodging, or a payment of £30 per annum in lieu thereof.

Free education, for terms not less than two years, nor more than five years, may, at the discretion of the Board, be granted to the unsuccessful Competitors for Scholarships who shall have gained a satisfactory percentage of the whole number of marks attainable.

Competitors residing in Dunedin and suburbs, entitled to free education under the preceding regulation, must attend the High School. Competitors residing beyond reach of Dunedin may attend the nearest Grammar School, or approved Main District School, at their option.

Certificates of merit will be granted to those Competitors who, though failing to gain the Scholarships, distinguish themselves greatly.

Schoolmasters must forward to the Secretary of the Education Board, before the 20th February, 1872, the names and ages of intending competitors belonging to their several schools.
