Remarks:—High wind on 4th. Great gale on 23rd from S.W. Thunder on 6th. Hail fell on 6th. Fog prevailed on 10th. Aurora Australis on 1st and 13th.

Note.—The results of all the self-registering instruments were recorded on the dates above given, and therefore occurred during the preceding 24 hours.

LABOR MARKET.

NOTICE to Employers of Labor and Persons who wish to obtain Employment.—A Register is kept at each of the Police Stations in the Province, in which employers of labor are requested to enter their names when wanting to engage servants, giving particulars as to the class they wish to employ, the period for which they wish to engage them, and the rate of wages they propose to pay.

The members of the Police force in charge of the Stations have been instructed to afford every possible information on the subject to men wishing to obtain employment, &c.


IMMIGRATION.

Regulations for the introduction of Immigrants into the Province of Otago, on the nomination of persons resident therein.—Persons residing within the Province may obtain orders for Passages from the United Kingdom to Otago, for their friends or relatives, on payment of £5 per statute adult; children over one year old, £2 10s; and under one year, free. Such payment to be made, accompanied by a written application in the following form, to the Provincial Treasurer, Dunedin; the Receivers of Land Revenue at Invercargill, and of Gold Revenue at Queenstown, Arrowtown, Cromwell, Clyde, Alexandra, Naseby, St. Bathans, Roxburgh, Lawrence, Switzers, Hyde, Macraes; and the Collector of Customs at Oamaru, who will forward the applications from time to time to the Provincial Immigration Office at Dunedin. Forms of application may be obtained from each of the above offices.

IMMIGRATION MONEY.—Assisted Immigrants by the undernamed Ships are requested to forward to John Logan, Immigration Agent, Dunedin, the amount of their Passage Money. Proceedings will be taken to recover in all cases of non-payment without further notice.

NORTH EAST HARBOR Road Board

hereby give notice that they intend to apply to the General Road Board at their meeting on the first Thursday of February, for authority to levy a special rate of one shilling per acre on all the front (beach) sections, with the intention of devoting the same to the improvement of the beach road. WEST WAIKIVI LOCAL ROAD BOARD

hereby notify their intention of applying at the next meeting of the General Road Board for power to levy a rate of 4d per acre for the current year.


NOTICE

The Wangaloa Road Board hereby notify their intention of applying at the first meeting of the General Road Board for authority to levy a highway rate of two pence per acre throughout the district for the year 1871-2. The assessment roll may be inspected for fourteen days from date, at my house (Sundays excepted).—ALEX. MITCHELL, Clerk Local Road Board. Wangaloa, Jan. 8, 1872.


CLARENDON Road District

Ratepayers are requested to pay the amount of their respective rates to me, at my house, Lake Waipori, on or before the 9th February, 1872.—R. B. TWEEDIE, Collector. Lake Waipori, 11th January, 1872.


ANDERSON'S BAY Road District

Notice.—The Assessment Roll for this district, for the year 1871-72, can be inspected by anyone claiming to be affected thereby, between the hours of 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., on every day not being a Sunday or public holiday, for 14 days from date hereof, at the house of James Samuel, Silverton, Anderson's Bay. Anderson's Bay, 15th January, 1872.
