EDUCATION MEETINGS.

MONDAY, 8th JANUARY, 7 P.M.

NOTICE is hereby given, that the Annual Statutory Meeting of the Owners and Occupiers of Land and Householders in each Educational District, for the Election of a new School Committee, and for the other purposes specified by Ordinance; will be held upon Monday, the 5th day of January, 1872, at seven o’clock p.m., at the following mentioned places respectively, viz.:

At Dunedin, in the Middle District School-house, between York place and Dowling street.
At Tokomairiro, in the Main District School-house, Milton.
And in the respective School-houses, or buildings used as School-houses, in the following mentioned districts, viz.:

  • Port Chalmers, Portobello, North East Harbour, Anderson’s Bay, North East Valley, Wakari, Kaikorai, Mornington, Caversham, Green Island, East Taieri, Saddle Hill, North Taieri, Lake Waipori, Waikouaiti, Balclutha, Waiwera, Kaitangata, Blueskin, Waikouaiti, Hampden, Otepopo, Oamaru, Lawrence, Queenstown, Wanlock, Waikaia Gorge, West Taieri, Maungatua, Clyde, Alexandra, Naseby (Mount Ida), Palmerston, Waitahuna, Port Molyneux, Pleasant River, Arrowtown, Cromwell, East Clutha, Waiwera, Inch Clutha, Kaitangata, Tuapeka, Switzers, Invercargill, Long Bush, Wallace Town, Campbelltown, Woodlands, Winton, Mataura, Gore, One Tree Point, Riverton and Waikiwi.

The householders in the following mentioned localities respectively, in which Side Schools have been established or authorised, are advised to meet in the School-houses or buildings used as School-houses, of their respective districts on the aforesaid Monday, the 8th day of January, 1872, at 7 o’clock p.m., for the purpose of electing School Committees for the ensuing year, viz.:

  • Tewiot, Moa Flat, Hamilton’s, St. Bathans, Waipori, Blue Spur, Weatherstones, Okia, Popotunoa, Taieri Beach, Awamoa, Macraes, Hindon, Tapanui, Upper Harbour West, Lower Harbour, Whare Flat, Black’s, Te Houka, Waiwera, Merton, Waikawa (Catlin’s Valley), Mihiwaka (Mataura), Hide, Wangaloa, Lovell’s, Shotover, Moeraki, Macetown, Glenore, South Akatore, Brighton, Cardrona, Sawyers Bay, Highcliff, Tuapeka Mouth, Thompson’s (Drybread), Tuturau, Tuapeka Ferry, Gorge, Waitoto, Albertown (Wanaka), Sandymount, Mount Cargill, Nokomai, Papakaio, Kuri Bush, Adam’s Flat, Shag Valley, Sowburn, Clarkes Flat, Forest Hill, Manuka Creek, Mabel Bush, Grove Bush, and Mosgiel.

Extract from Section XIV of the Education Ordinance, 1864:

On the second Monday in the month of January in each year, a public meeting of the owners and occupiers of land and householders in every Educational District, being male persons above twenty-one years of age, shall be held at a time and place to be fixed by the Secretary of the Board, and notified by public advertisement at least one month previously, and in such other manner as the Board shall direct, and at such meeting a Chairman shall be chosen and the School Committees for the preceding year shall give a full report of their proceedings, and thereupon the electors present shall proceed to elect, either by show of hands or by ballot, as shall be determined upon by the said meeting, a new School Committee for the ensuing year of not less than five nor more than nine persons possessing the qualifications prescribed by clause 13, and may re-elect all or any of the persons going out of office to be members of such new Committee, and every Committee so to be appointed shall hold office until the appointment of their successors.

EDUCATION BOARD.—The meeting of the Education Board is postponed to Thursday, the 15th day of January, 1872.

NOTICE.—The Deborah Bay District Road Board hereby notify their intention of applying to the General Road Board, at its next meeting in January, 1872, for authority to levy a Highway Rate of Sixpence per Acre throughout the district, for year ending June, 1872. The Assessment roll may be inspected for fourteen days from date at the house of the undersigned.—John Andrew, Clerk.

MOSSIEL Road Board hereby notify their intention of applying at the first meeting of the General Road Board for authority to levy a Highway Rate of 6d in the pound for the year 1871-2. The Assessment roll may be inspected for fourteen days from date at the house of the undersigned.—John Andrew, Clerk.

WAREPA Road District.—Notice is hereby given of the intention of the Warepa Road Board to apply to the General Road Board at its meeting in January next, for authority to levy a Highway Rate of 1s in the pound on the annual value of all lands, houses, &c for the year ending June, 1872. Ratepayers may see the assessment roll at the Schoolhouse.

THE Clarendon Road Board hereby notifies its intention to apply to the General Road Board, at the January meeting, for authority to levy a Highway Rate of One Shilling in the £ on the annual value of all lands rateable in the district, for the year 1871-72.

NOTICE.—The Waimatuku Road Board hereby notify their intention of applying at the first meeting of the General Road Board that will be held after 20th December prox., for authority to levy a Highway Rate of 3d per acre for the current year in the above road district.

JACOBS River Road Board hereby notify their intention of applying at the next sitting of the General Road Board on the first Thursday of January, 1872, for authority to levy a Highway Rate on all the rateable property of the district for the year ending June, 1872. The assessment roll is now ready, and may be inspected for fourteen days from date at my house; (Sundays excepted).—A Cassells, Clerk to Board. Stevens’ Bush, 7th December, 1871.

NOTICE.—The Anderson’s Bay Local Board of Road Trustees intend applying to the General Road Board, at their first meeting, for leave to levy a Rate of Fourpence in the £ as an assessment on the annual value of all lands, houses, buildings, and hereditaments within their district.—James Samuel, Clerk Local Board. 18th December, 1871.

MOUNT ROYAL Road District.—Notice is hereby given that the above named Road Board intend to apply to the General Road Board on the first Thursday in January, 1872, for authority to levy a Highway Rate of sixpence in the pound on the annual value.
