BUSHEY ROAD DISTRICT.

Notice is hereby given that the General Road Board having issued a Precept authorising the collection of the Highway Rate for the year 1871-72, the collector will call once upon the Ratepayers for payment of the amount of their respective Rates.

OPMANHURST ROAD DISTRICT.

Notice is hereby given that the Board of the above district intend to apply at the December sitting of the General Road Board for authority to levy a Highway Rate of two-pence (2d) per acre.

THE FINGEAND ROAD BOARD

hereby notify their intention of applying to the General Road Board, at the November sitting, for authority to levy a Highway Rate of 6d in the Pound, on all Property in the district, for the year ending June, 1872.

CHALGROVE ROAD BOARD.

Notice is hereby given, that the Precept authorising the collection of the Highway Rate in the above named district having been issued by the General Road Board, Ratepayers are requested to pay the amount of their respective rates to me, at my house, Belgrove, on or before the 21st of November, 1871.

CORRECTED NOTICE.

PORTOBELLO ROAD BOARD.

The Precept authorising the collection of the Highway Rate for the Portobello district for the year 1871-72, having been issued, Ratepayers are requested to pay their respective rates to meet at my house, within thirty days from this date. But to convenience Ratepayers at a distance I will attend at the school-house, Portobello, on Saturday, the 25th November, from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m.

FLAGSTAFF ROAD DISTRICT.

Notice is hereby given, that a Precept authorising the collection of the Highway Rate in the above named district having been issued by the General Road Board, Ratepayers are requested to pay the amount of their respective rates to me, at my house, on or before the 21st November, 1871.

BRIGHTON ROAD BOARD.

The Road Board intends to apply at the December sitting of the General Road Board, for authority to levy a Highway Rate of one shilling in the pound on the annual value of all rateable property in said district, and the rate roll may be inspected for 14 days from this date at the house of Mr J. B. Blair.

GREEN ISLAND ROAD BOARD.

The Precept for the collection of the Highway Rate for 1871-72, having been issued, Ratepayers are requested to pay to Andrew Mason, at his house, their respective rates, in one payment, on or before the 10th November. A. Mason has authorised the clerk of the Board to collect rates also.

LOST on the night of the 30th September, 1871, near Arthur's Point bridge, Shotover, a deposit receipt on the Bank of New Zealand, Arrow, No 11473 (10—13) for twenty pounds stg. (£20), dated 20th May, 1871.

NOTICE.

Notice is hereby given that the partnership heretofore existing between Walter Guthrie and William Asher of Dunedin, carrying on business as timber merchants, under the style or firm of "Guthrie and Asher," has been dissolved by mutual consent. All debts due to the partnership will be received and all liabilities will be discharged by Mr Walter Guthrie, who will continue to carry on the business under the style used by the late firm.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.

At the Government House at Wellington, this twenty-fifth day of October, 1871.

Present:
His EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR IN COUNCIL.

WHEREAS by "The Lunatics Act, 1868," it is enacted that it shall be lawful for the Governor in Council, from time to time, to order and direct that all or any of the powers, functions, duties, and authorities vested in or required to be performed by the Governor, or the Governor in Council, or the Colonial Secretary, by the said Act, within any Province or other district of the Colony, shall be exercised or performed by the Superintendent of any such Province, or by any other person the Governor may think fit, subject however to any limitations or restrictions as he may think fit; and thereupon such functions, powers, duties, and authorities may be exercised or performed within the Province or other district of the Colony specified in such order:

Now therefore, His Excellency Sir George Ferguson Bowen, the Governor of New Zealand, with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said Colony, in pursuance and exercise of the power and authority for that purpose vested in him, doth hereby order and direct that all the powers, functions, duties, and authorities vested in or required to be performed by the Governor, or the Governor in Council, or the Colonial Secretary, by "The Lunatics Act, 1863," within the Province of Otago, shall be exercised by William Alexander Tolmie, Esq., the Deputy Superintendent of the said Province, but only during the absence of the Superintendent of the said Province therefrom, and during any vacancy in the office of Superintendent of the said Province arising by death or resignation, and only so long as the said William Alexander Tolmie, Esq., shall hold the office of Deputy Superintendent of the said Province.

His Excellency the Governor has been pleased to appoint John Francis Garvey, Esq., to be Deputy of the Registrar of Marriages, and of Births, Deaths, and Marriages, for the district of Nokomai and Switzers, as the same is defined in Proclamation of 25th day of June, 1868, and published in New Zealand Gazette, No. 35, of the 29th day of June, 1868.
