STEAM TUG.
TENDERS will be received at this office until noon of Thursday, the second day of November next, for the performance of the Steam Tug Service in the port of Otago for twelve months by a suitable steamer of not less than seventy-horse power.
The master of the Tug must be qualified to act, and be licensed by the Government as a pilot for the Port.

NOTICE to Employers of Labor and Persons who wish to obtain Employment.
A Register is kept at each of the Police Stations in the Province, in which employers of labor are requested to enter their names when wanting to engage servants, giving particulars as to the class they wish to employ, the period for which they wish to engage them, and the rate of wages they propose to pay.
The members of the Police force in charge of the Stations have been instructed to afford every possible information on the subject to men wishing to obtain employment, &c.

NASEBY HOSPITAL.
MEETING OF CONTRIBUTORS.
In pursuance of the "Hospitals' Ordinance, 1862," the first Public Meeting of the Contributors to the Hospital situate in the town of Naseby, in the Otago Gold Field, for the purpose of electing the Committee of Management and other Officers, and transacting any other business of the said Institution, will be held in the Odd Fellows Hall, in the said township of Naseby, upon Tuesday, the thirty-first day of October, 1871, at twelve o'clock noon.

By Section 8 of the said Ordinance, it is enacted that the "Committee and other Officers of such institutions respectively, shall be elected by the majority of Contributors, either of the annual sum of one pound at the least, or of ten pounds in one sum to the said Institutions respectively, who may be present at the respective Meetings, to be called for the purposes of any such Elections as hereinafter provided."
LOTTERY
The following clause of the "Town and Country Police Ordinance 1862" is published for general information:
- If any person shall establish commence or be a partner or otherwise beneficially interested in any lottery or any scheme by which prizes whether of money or of any other matter or thing shall be gained drawn or thrown for or competed for by lot dice or any other mode of chance or shall sell or dispose of any tickets or other means by which permission or authority is gained or given to any person to throw for compete or have any interest in any such lottery or scheme or shall under any pretence or by means of any device sell or dispose of or endeavour to sell or dispose of any lands goods wares or merchandise by means of any game either of skill or chance every such person being duly convicted thereof shall forfeit and pay a penalty not exceeding fifty pounds and for any second offence besides such penalty shall be liable to imprisonment not exceeding six months: But this provision shall not apply to the distribution of any property amongst the owners thereof or to any raffle of any work purely of art of which a notice having the name and address of the person intending to hold the same subscribed thereto shall have been given to the Superintendent if the Superintendent shall not within one week after such notice prohibit such raffle by notice sent by post or in any other manner according to the address so subscribed by such person.

TENDERS will be received at the Office of the Secretary for Land and Works, until noon of Tuesday, 31st of October, for:
Contracts Nos. 545, 546, and 547—Construction of portions of Road "Tokomairiro to Tuapeka."
Plans and Specifications may be seen, and forms of tender obtained, at the office of the Engineer of Roads and Works, Dunedin, or at the Police Station, Waitahuna.
Tenders to be indorsed "Roads and Works, Tender for Contract No. 545, 546, or 547," as the case may be.
The Government does not undertake to accept the lowest or any tender.
