OTAGO UNIVERSITY SCHOLARSHIPS.

THE following Scholarships will be open for competition to the Students for the Ministry of the Presbyterian Church of Otago and Southland, on the 5th day of June next:—

  1. The Synod Scholarship. Value, £25 per annum for three years.

  2. The Lang Scholarship. Value, £16 per annum for three years.

  3. The Knox Church Scholarship. Value £30 per annum for three years

The Competitive Examination will be held in the Class-room of Knox Church, Dunedin, on the day above named. Intending competitors, who must not be under 16 years of age, are required to leave written notice, accompanied by certificate of character, not later than the 13th May, with the undersigned, who will afford any needful information as to the subjects of examination.

A Meeting of the Owners and Occupiers of Land and Householders, in each of the under-mentioned School Districts, will be held at the time and place hereinafter specified, for the purpose of electing a School Committee for the current year:—

Invercargill—In the late Provincial Council Hall, on Monday 8th May, at 7 o’clock p.m.

Riverton—In the School-house, on Monday, 8th May, at 1 o’clock p.m.

Waikiwi—At the Residence of Mr. Bain, on Tuesday, 9th May, at 1 o’clock p.m.

Wallacetown—In the School-house, on Tuesday, 9th May, at 7 o’clock p.m.

Waianiwa—In the School-house on Wednesday, 10th May, at 1 o’clock p.m.

Flint’s Bush (Waimatuku)—In the School-house, on Wednesday, 10th May, at 4 o’clock p.m.

TEVIOT SCHOOL.—A duly qualified Teacher required for the above school. Salary, £150 per annum, with comfortable residence. Applications to be addressed to the Secretary, Teviot School Committee.


TEACHER WANTED.—Wanted, for the Tapanui Beach Side School, a Teacher. Salary £75 and School Fees, and small allowance for rent. Applications, with Testimonials, to be lodged at the Education Office, on or before the 1st of June.


THE Gap District Local Road Board hereby intimate their intention of applying at the first meeting of the General Road Board, to be held in May, for authority to levy a Highway Rate of Threepence per acre, for the current year, in the above District. The Assessment Roll is open for inspection at Mr. Kerr’s, in the above District, for fourteen days from date, Sundays excepted. Thomas Norman, Clerk to Local Road Board. Winton, May 1st, 1871.


MOSGIEL ROAD DISTRICT.—Notice. The Assessment Roll for this district, 1870-71, can be inspected for fourteen days from this date by anyone claiming to be affected thereby, at the house of the undersigned. John Andrews, Clerk to the Board. Grange, Mosgiel, May 1st, 1871.


NOTICE.—The Precept having been issued authorising the Collection of the Highway Rate in the Deborah Bay Road District for Year ending 25th June, 1871, ratepayers are requested to pay their rates to me at my house on or before the seventeenth (17th) May, 1871.—Geo. SUPREME COURT.

NOTICE is hereby given, that a Sitting of the Supreme Court for the despatch of Criminal and Civil Business, will be held at the Supreme Court House, Dunedin, on Monday, the 5th day of June next, at the hour of ten o’clock in the forenoon, at which time and place all persons bound by recognizances to appear as Prosecutors, Defendants, or Witnesses, are required to give their attendance.

Notice is hereby further given, that the Civil Cases will not be called on for trial until Tuesday, the 13th day of June, at ten o’clock in the forenoon.

THOMAS H. BROOKS, who was a Passenger on board the Steamer Lord Worsley when wrecked, is requested to call upon the Collector of Customs, Dunedin.

IMPOUNDED on the 3rd day of May, 1871, by Robert Jackson, Forbury Road, one chestnut Gelding, no visible brand; one black Gelding, star forehead, no visible brand; owner or owners unknown, for trespassing on paddock, for which no damages are claimed; and, in default of being released the above Geldings will be sold at the Public Pound, at Caversham, on Friday, the 26th day of May, 1871, at twelve o’clock noon.—John Anderson, Poundkeeper of the Caversham Pound.


IMPOUNDED on the 6th day of May, 1871, by John Irving, Ranger, 8 Rams, branded like the letter L; 351 Sheep, mixed sex, branded like the letter L; supposed to belong to Matthew Holmes, Esq., for trespassing on Traquair Hundreds, for which one halfpenny per head is claimed, expenses driving to Pound.
