UNIVERSITY OF OTAGO.

The following mentioned Classes will be opened in the University Building, Dunedin, about the beginning of June, 1871:—

  1. Classics.—Separate Classes for Junior and Senior Latin, Greek, and the English Language and Literature. Professor: G. S. Sale, M.A., late of Rugby, and formerly Fellow and Classical Lecturer, Trinity College, Cambridge.

  2. Mathematics.—Separate Classes for Junior and Senior Mathematics; Junior and Senior Natural Philosophy. Professor: John Shand, M.A., formerly First Mathematical Master in the Royal Academy, Gosport, England; and the Edinburgh Academy.

  3. Mental and Moral Philosophy.—Classes for Logic, Mental Science, Moral Philosophy, and Political Economy. Professor: D. Macgregor, M.A., M.B., late Ferguson Scholar, in Mental and Moral Science.

  4. Natural Science.—Classes for Chemistry, Mineralogy, &c., will be opened in May, 1872. Professor: J. G. Black, M.A., D.Sc., Edinburgh University.

The term will last for six months continuously, during the entire course of which Instruction will be given to each class by the Professor, by means of Text Books, Lectures, and oral and written Examinations.

The fee for each Professor is Three Guineas per term.

Intending Students and persons desirous of obtaining additional information are requested to communicate with

OTAGO UNIVERSITY SCHOLARSHIPS.

The following Scholarships will be open for competition to the Students for the Ministry, of the Presbyterian Church of Otago and Southland, on the 5th day of June next:—

  1. The Synod Scholarship. Value, £25 per annum for three years.

  2. The Lung Scholarship. Value, £16 per annum for three years.

  3. The Knox Church Scholarship. Value, £30 per annum for three years.

The Competitive Examination will be held in the Class-room of Knox Church, Dunedin, on the day above named. Intending competitors, who must not be under 16 years of age, are required to leave written notice, accompanied by certificate of character, not later than the 15th May, with the undersigned, who will afford any needful information as to the subjects of examination.

MEETING of the Owners and Occupiers of land and Householders in the Educational District of Inch Clutha

Will be held in the Schoolhouse, Inch Clutha, on Friday, the 5th May, 1871, at 7 o’clock p.m., to elect a School Committee for the current year.

A meeting of the Owners and Occupiers of land and Householders in the Educational District of Kaitangata will be held in the Schoolhouse, Kaitangata, on Friday, the 5th May, 1871, at 7 o’clock p.m., to elect a School Committee for the current year.

In consequence of no School Committee having been elected for Palmerston District on the 9th January, His Honor the Superintendent has appointed a meeting of the owners and occupiers of land and householders of the said Educational District of Palmerston, to be held in the schoolhouse, Palmerston, on Friday, the 5th of May, 1871, at 7 o’clock p.m., to elect a School Committee for the current year.
