PUBLIC NOTIFICATION.
IN Conformity to the 29th Section of the "Gold Fields Act 1866," and to the Regulations made under that Act and the "Gold Fields Acts Amendment Acts 1867, 1868, and 1869," for the granting of leases for gold mining purposes within the Province of Otago, it is hereby notified that it is intended to grant a lease for gold mining purposes of Crown Lands to the applicant specified in the annexed Schedule, unless there shall be valid objections against granting such lease.
Objections to the granting of such lease, stating the grounds of objection, must be made in writing, and lodged with the Warden, at Lawrence, on or before the 17th day of May, 1871.
Copy of the application made, and plans annexed, may be seen at the Warden’s Office, Lawrence.

FREE GRANTS OF LAND FOR PLANTATION.
THE Provincial Government is prepared to receive applications from parties desirous of taking up land for the purpose of planting forest trees.
Each applicant will be allowed to take up an area of land not exceeding 250 acres, to be selected in any part of the Province: Provided that, if within Gold Fields, the Warden of the district will be required to report, and should the application be granted, it will be subject to the provisions of the Agricultural Lease Regulations, as to entry to mine, or prospect for gold.
Any person whose application is accepted will be required, during the first year, to fence in the whole of the area granted to him, and to plant with blue gum, or other approved forest trees one-fifth of the area during each of the second, third, fourth, and fifth years. The remaining fifth may be used for cultivation, at the option of the occupant.
As soon as these conditions are fulfilled, the occupier will be entitled to receive a Crown Grant free of cost.

[AMENDED NOTICE.
THE GOVERNMENT OF OTAGO being aware that it is proposed by the Colonial Executive to introduce, during the ensuing Session of the General Assembly, a Bill to consolidate and amend the several Acts relating to the administration of the Gold Fields; and, being desirous of affording the Miners an opportunity of expressing their opinions in a most direct manner upon the legislation necessary in their interest, and, further, of suggesting such alteration of the Regulations as may be suitable to the advanced condition of gold mining in the Province, have resolved to appoint a Commission for that purpose; and holders of Miners’ Rights and Business Licenses are invited to select delegates from amongst themselves to take part in a Conference, to be held in Dunedin early in the month of May.
The Otago Gold Field has therefore been divided into seven districts, from each of which one delegate may be elected, in accordance with the following Regulations:

Every Delegate must be the holder of a current Miners’ Right or Business License, issued on or before the 1st of January, 1871.

Nominations of proposed Delegates may be made by holders of Miners’ Rights only, on or before Monday, May 1, in writing, addressed to the "The Warden," and in the following form, which is to be signed by the proposer and seconder:-

Every voter must produce his current Miner’s Right or Business License, dated on or before 1st January, 1871; and the Returning Officer shall stamp or write across every Miner’s Right and Business License so produced, the word "Voted" and the date.

Holders of Miner’s Rights may record their votes in writing in the following form; but in such case it will be requisite for the Miner’s Right of the voter to be produced by the person entrusted with the voting paper.
