PRIVATE PETITIONS.—The following resolution by the Private Petitions Committee, which was afterwards adopted by the Provincial Council, is published for general information :—
“In concluding their labours, your Committee would recommend to the consideration of the Council the advisability of laying down as a rule of this House, that all Petitions should be first submitted to the Government, if possible, during the recess, before being presented to the Provincial Council; so that the Government may be prepared beforehand with any evidence they wish to procure bearing on the prayer of the Petitions; and all applications for Reserves should be made to the Government during the recess, and brought down to the Council with their opinion thereon.

IMMIGRATION TO OTAGO.—Conditions :—£6 for each adult, and the half of that sum for persons between the ages of 1 and 12, must be paid in Otago before the names are sent home to the Agent in Edinburgh.
If the parties remain three years in Otago, no further payment will be required to be made. If they do not remain that time, another payment of £8 10s. must be made before leaving Otago.
All Immigrants must be approved by the Agents for the Province, and may sail either from London or Glasgow.

IMMIGRANTS’ PASSAGE MONEY.—All Immigrants in arrears are requested to pay the same forthwith, otherwise expenses will be incurred. Lists containing the names of all persons in arrears have been placed in the hands of the police.—JOHN LOGAN, Immigration Agent. Dunedin, 11th October, 1870.
FLAX.—The House of Representatives having resolved that there should be an Exhibition in Wellington, during the next Session of the Assembly, of all varieties of Flax fibre prepared in the Colony, manufacturers are invited to forward to the Flax Commissioners, through the Superintendent of their Province, samples of the fibre, rope, sacking, or any other material, prepared by them from the New Zealand Flax.
The samples of fibre should not be less than 20 lbs. in weight, and 10 or 15 fathoms of each kind of rope will be sufficient.
It is desirable that a statement of the processes, and estimated cost of manufacture, should accompany the samples.

TEACHER WANTED for Sandymount Side School.—Salary £75 per annum, with a portion of the School Fees. Applications, with testimonials, to be lodged on or before 1st March, with W. RIDDELL, Education Office.
BLACKSMITHS.—Tenders will be received at the Provincial Government Offices, Dunedin, until noon of Monday, 13th February, 1871, from parties willing to supply wrought iron work at per lb. until 31st December, 1871.
WAREPA ROAD BOARD NOTICE.—Notice is hereby given, that the Precept authorising the levying of a rate of 3d per acre on all rateable lands within the district having been issued, ratepayers are requested to pay the amount of their respective rates to me, at my house, on or before 28th February, proximo.

ALLDAY ROAD DISTRICT.—A Precept, authorising the collection of a Special Highway Rate of three-half-pence per acre having been issued by the General Board, ratepayers are hereby informed that their respective amounts are payable to me, within one month from date hereof.—ALEX. THE Poll for the election of seven Conservators for the West Taieri River District will take place in the Court House, Outram, on Friday, the 10th day of February next, between the hours of 10 and 4 o’clock p.m.

NOTICE TO POUNDKEEPERS.
POUNDKEEPERS who have failed to make the returns to the Provincial Treasury, as provided by the ordinance, are reminded that they are liable to a penalty of £20.
IMPOUNDED on the 28th day of January, 1871, by John M’Kay, Waitahuna, one red Cow, white on tail, with calf at foot, no brand; one red Cow, white on back, indistinct brand on near rump, owner unknown, for trespassing on the Gold Fields, for which 15s each is claimed, and in default of being released, the above cattle will be sold at the Public Pound at Lawrence on Friday, 24th day of February, 1871, at 12 o’clock noon. IMPOUNDED on the 24th January, 1871, by J. Smith, by order of Mr Patterson, for trespassing on growing crops, one light red and white Bullock, branded two triangles conjoined off rump, supposed to belong to E. B. Atkinson, Esq. If the same is not claimed before the 24th February, 1871, he will be sold to defray expenses. JAMES DALGLEISH, Poundkeeper, Papakaio.
IMPOUNDED on the 31st day of January, 1871, one bay Gelding, no visible brands; one light brown Mare, branded like figure two reversed near shoulder; one dark brown Colt, one or two year old, no brand, by Mr Charles Turnbull, Montere Station; owner unknown, for trespassing on Montere Station and breaking down fences; in default of being released, the above will be sold at the Public Pound at Clyde Leaning Rock, on Friday, the 24th day of February, 1871, at 12 o’clock noon. NOTICE is hereby given that a Sitting of the Supreme Court, for the despatch of Criminal and Civil business, will be holden at the Supreme Court-House, Dunedin, on Monday, the Sixth day of March next, at the hour of ten o’clock in the forenoon, at which time and place all persons bound by recognizances to appear as prosecutors, defendants, or witnesses, are required to give their attendance.
