"THE FIRE INSPECTORS ACT 1870."

BY virtue and in exercise of the power conferred upon me by "The Fire Inspectors Act 1870," I do hereby appoint

Mr. WILLIAM CLEAVER ANCELL, and
Mr. WILLIAM JAMES,
both of the Town of West Hawksbury, in the Province of Otago, as and to be Fire Inspectors for the said Town of West Hawksbury, under the said Act.

NOTICE.

HIS HONOR the Superintendent directs it to be notified that, by virtue of the authority given him in that behalf by the 14th Section of the "Southland Waste Lands Act 1865," he has, by warrant under his hand, appointed John Turnbull Thomson, Esquire, to be Chief Surveyor, under the said Act.

NOTICE is hereby given, that the Mining Lease issued in favor of Samuel Inder, for Section 11, Blackstone District, has been cancelled by the Government, and the land is now open for occupation by holders of Miners' Rights.

PRIVATE PETITIONS.—The following resolution by the Private Petitions Committee, which was afterwards adopted by the Provincial Council, is published for general information:—

"In concluding their labours, your Committee would recommend to the consideration of the Council the advisability of laying down as a rule of this House, that all Petitions should be first submitted to the Government, if possible, during the recess, before being presented to the Provincial Council; so that the Government may be prepared beforehand with any evidence they wish to procure bearing on the prayer of the Petitions; and all applications for Reserves should be made to the Government during the recess, and brought down to the Council with their opinion thereon."
