NOTICE TO AUCTIONEERS.—The Waste Land Board is prepared to receive Tenders till noon of Monday, 14th November, from persons willing to conduct auction sales of Crown Lands within the districts around Oamaru, Waikouaiti, Dunedin, Tokomairiro, Balclutha, Mataura, Lawrence, Naseby, Clyde, and Queenstown.
The person whose tender is accepted, will be required to enter into a bond with two approved sureties, for the sum of £200, for the proper discharge of his duties.
Printed instructions may be seen, and forms of tender obtained, at the Land Office, Dunedin; at the Survey Offices, Queenstown, Clyde, Naseby, and Lawrence; and at the Police Offices, Oamaru, Waikouaiti, Tokomairiro, and Balclutha.

CAUTION.
THE Public are hereby cautioned not to set fire to any herbage or grass upon the Crown Lands within any Hundred, without the consent in writing of the Chief Commissioner of the Waste Land Board, previously obtained: as any person so offending is liable to a penalty of £5.
Further, by the “Malicious Injuries to Property Act 1867,” any person maliciously and unlawfully setting fire to any crop of hay, grass, corn, grain, or pulse, or of any cultivated vegetable produce, whether standing or cut down, or to any part of any wood, coppice, or plantation of trees, or to any heath, gorse, furze, or fern, wheresoever the same may be growing, shall be guilty of felony.

ITHOGRAPH MAPS of the Province of Otago, and of the surveyed Towns, Blocks, and Districts therein, may be obtained at the Land Office, Dunedin; at Mr. Livingston’s, bookseller, Prince’s street; and at the agencies of Mr. Livingston, Oamaru; Mr. Smith, Waikouaiti; Mr. Stoddart, Hampden; Messrs. B. Hibbard and Co., Tokomairiro; and at the Survey Offices at Queenstown, Clyde, Naseby, and Lawrence, so far as relates to the Districts, &c., adjacent to them; but any map not on hand at any of the Survey Offices may be ordered through them.
All the surveyed Towns and Blocks have been lithographed—price 1s. each. The Districts now lithographed on a scale of 80 chains to an inch are Awamoko, Papakaio, Oamaru, Kauroo, Otepopo, and Moeraki—price 5s. each.
AND open for sale on 18th May, 1870.—See Gazette published 19th May, 1870, which may be had at the various Survey and Police Stations throughout the Province, and at the Land Office, Dunedin.
NOTICE TO SCHOOLMASTERS.—The Education Board has resolved that Three Scholarships shall be offered for Competition this year; two of these for pupils of the Grammar and District Schools, and one for High School pupils. No full Scholarship will be awarded unless 75 per cent. of the total number of marks be obtained. This standard will be raised to 80 per cent. at the beginning of 1872.
All competitors from Grammar and District Schools, obtaining 60 per cent. and upwards, will be entitled to the following advantages:—
- 60 to 65 per cent., 2 years’ Free Education
- 65 to 70 „ 3 „ „
- 70 to 75 „ 4 „ „
- 75 to 80 „ 5 „ „
Competitors residing in Dunedin and suburbs, entitled to Free Education under the preceding regulation, must attend the High School. Competitors residing beyond reach of Dunedin, may attend the nearest Grammar School or approved Main District School, at their option. The subjects of examination will shortly be published.

TO PUBLIC LIBRARY COMMITTEES.—A consignment of Public Library Books is on board the J. Nicol Fleming, shortly due at Port Chalmers. Library Committees will obtain a printed list of the Books, on application at the Education Office.

MASTER WANTED for Waipori Government School. The income from the School has been about £150 per annum, and the present teacher holds another appointment which yields about £25. There is a good residence. Applications, with testimonials, to be lodged with the Hon. Secretary, Mr. J. Berson-Cairns, Waipori, till November 6.
WANTED.—A Teacher for Tuturau School. Salary, £75 per annum, and School Fees. There is also a glebe of 15 acres, and a good dwelling-house, capable of accommodating a few boarders. Applications, with testimonials, to be addressed to John M’Lean, Edenbank Farm, Mataura, not later than 23rd November, 1870.
