NOTICES

Tuapeka District. (No 28).

  1. All that area in the Province of Otago containing by admeasurement 0a 1r 19p more or less being a road line situate in the Tuapeka District bounded on the north-east by section No 54 block I 870 links more or less and on the south-west by sections numbered 53 and 59 920 links more or less.

  2. All that area in the Province of Otago containing by admeasurement 1a 1r 11p more or less being a road line situate in the Tuapeka District bounded on the north-east by sections numbered 52, 58 and 61 block I 2646 links more or less and on the south-west by sections numbered 57 and 62 block I 2646 links more or less.

Waitahuna District.

  1. All that area in the Province of Otago containing by admeasurement 3a 0r 22p more or less being a road line situate in the Waitahuna Survey District bounded on the north by sections numbered 47, 52, 56, 67, and 72 block III 6276 links more or less and on the south by sections numbered 48, 51, 57, 66, and 73 block III 6276 links more or less.

ASSESSMENT OF STOCK DEPASTURED ON HUNDREDS

Persons who have neglected to pay their Assessment in terms of the “Otago Waste Land Act 1866, Amendment Act 1869,” are requested to do so at once to the Provincial Treasurer, Dunedin.

All parties in arrears on 1st October, 1870, will be proceeded against in terms of the 11th section of the above Act.

Sections of the Act above referred to:

  1. The Superintendent shall with the advice and consent of his Executive Council levy and raise yearly for and in respect of all cattle depastured upon the Waste Lands within any Hundred an assessment as follows:

For every head of great cattle a sum of three shillings and sixpence
For every head of small cattle a sum of sevenpence
To be paid by the person depasturing such cattle at a time and place and in manner to be appointed by the Superintendent by notice in the Provincial Gazette and the amount received from every such assessment shall be paid into the Provincial Treasury and form part of the Land Revenue of the Province of Otago and shall be appropriated by Ordinance of the Superintendent and Provincial Council in the formation and repair of district roads and bridges in the several Hundreds in which such assessment shall have accrued and such assessment shall be so expended in such Hundreds exclusive of and in addition to any sums which shall be appropriated from time to time by the Provincial Legislature under the provisions of “The Otago Road Boards Endowment Act 1868” for the formation and repair of main roads and bridges thereupon.

  1. In case any person liable for the payment of any such assessment shall neglect or refuse to pay within thirty days the amount due in respect thereof it shall be lawful for the Superintendent without prejudice to any other remedy he may have at law to issue a warrant under his hand directed to some constable to levy the amount so due by distress and sale of a sufficient part of the cattle of the party liable in like manner as in case of rent in arrear between landlord and tenant.

DUARD ROAD DISTRICT.—Election of Local Board of Road Trustees.

In pursuance of the “Otago Roads Ordinance 1865,” and the “Otago Roads Ordinance 1865 Extension and Amendment Ordinance,” I hereby convene a meeting of the persons liable to be rated for roads in the above-named district, such meeting to be held at the house of the Hon. John M’Lean, within the said district, on Friday, 30th September, 1870, at noon, for the purpose of electing a Local Board of Road Trustees to serve for the year ending June, 1871.

NOTE.—The attention of ratepayers is specially directed to the 9th, 10th, and 11th clauses of the “Otago Roads Ordinance 1865,” for mode of procedure at electoral meetings.

NOTICE

In future when it is required that the amounts due to local Road Boards, on account of their subsidised rates, should be paid into a Bank to their credit, the Treasurers to the Boards must give an order to that effect on the back of the voucher.

NOTICE

Notice is hereby given, that the Government have cancelled the Occupation Certificates issued in favor of the undermentioned:

William Archibald Murray, for Section 21, Block X, Waitahuna East.
John Dumbleton, for Section 51, Block V, Waitahuna East.

And the Agricultural Lease prepared in favor of John Thomson, for Sections 31, 32, 36, and 37, Block VII, Waitahuna East; and the land is now open for application for agricultural purposes.

CORRECTED NOTICE

THE GOVERNMENT is prepared to receive offers until noon of Saturday, 1st day of October, 1870, from persons who may be willing to lay on steamers to perform the following services on the Clutha River, viz.:

1st. A steamer to leave Dunedin for Port Molyneux fortnightly, in connection with one on the Clutha for Kaitangata, Clutha Ferry, Pomahaka, and Clyde Vale, or as much higher up the river as can be obtained, including a trip to Waikava and Catlin River bi-monthly; or

2nd. To perform the same services, and in addition to proceed to the “Bluff” and Riverton if necessary.

Public Notification is hereby given that the ground described in the Schedule below may be occupied by holders of Miners’ Rights.
