of its gold deposits: Now, therefore, I hereby give notice that the same may be occupied by holders of miners’ rights in claims of the undermentioned size, viz.:

One (1) acre for each holder of a miners’ right, provided that no block claim shall comprise more than six (6) acres altogether.

SCHEDULE.

All that portion of the Otago Gold Field situate at the upper part of Macrae’s Flat, and bounded as follows:—Commencing at Trig. station A, near the “Little Engine”; thence by the base line between Trig. stations A and B, 70 chains, to a point opposite the Upper Township; thence by a straight line to the Upper Township; thence by the cross road to the main Dunedin road; thence by the main Dunedin road to Trig. station C, and thence by a straight line to the starting point.

ASSESSMENT OF STOCK DEPASTURED ON HUNDREDS.—Persons who have neglected to pay their Assessment in terms of the “Otago Waste Land Act 1866, Amendment Act 1869,” are requested to do so at once to the Provincial Treasurer, Dunedin.

All parties in arrears on 1st October, 1870, will be proceeded against in terms of the 11th section of the above Act.

  1. The Superintendent shall, with the advice and consent of his Executive Council, levy and raise yearly for and in respect of all cattle depastured upon the Waste Lands within any Hundred an assessment as follows:—

For every head of great cattle a sum of three shillings and sixpence |

For every head of small cattle a sum of seven pence

To be paid by the person depasturing such cattle at a time and place and in manner to be appointed by the Superintendent by notice in the Provincial Gazette and the amount received from every such assessment shall be paid into the Provincial Treasury and form part of the Land Revenue of the Province of Otago and shall be appropriated by Ordinance of the Superintendent and Provincial Council in the formation and repair of district roads and bridges in the several Hundreds in which such assessment shall have accrued and such assessment shall be so expended in such Hundreds exclusive of and in addition to any sums which shall be appropriated from time to time by the Provincial Legislature under the provisions of “The Otago Road Boards Endowment Act 1868” for the formation and repair of main roads and bridges thereupon.

  1. In case any person liable for the payment of any such assessment shall neglect or refuse to pay within thirty days the amount due in respect thereof it shall be lawful for the Superintendent without prejudice to any other remedy he may have at law to issue a warrant under his hand directed to some constable to levy the amount so due by distress and sale of a sufficient part of the cattle of the party liable in like manner as in case of rent in arrear between landlord and tenant.

9th September, Friday, noon, a cow and a calf will be sold at Hawksbury Pound.

9th September, Friday, noon, a filly will be sold at Oamaru Pound.

TENDERS will be received at the Office of the Secretary for Land and Works until noon of Friday, 2nd September, for—

Contract No. 487, Construction of a Stone and Iron Bridge over the Awamoos Creek, near Oamaru.

Plans and Specifications may be seen, and forms of tender obtained, at the Office of the Engineer of Roads and Works, Dunedin; or at Police Station, Oamaru.

Tenders to be indorsed, “Roads and Works, Tender for Contract No. 487.”

The Government does not undertake to accept the lowest or any tender.

TIME EXTENDED.

TENDERS will be received at the Office of the Secretary for Land and Works until noon of Friday, 16th September, for

  1. Contracts Nos. 490 and 491—Maintenance of portions of the road “Saddle Hill to West Taieri Bridge.”

  2. Contracts Nos. 492, 493, 494, 495, 496, 497, 498, 499, 500, 501, 502, 503, 504, and 405—Maintenance of portions of the road “Dunedin to East Taieri Bridge.”

  3. Contracts Nos. 518, 519, 520, 521, 522, 523, 524, 525, and 526—Maintenance of portions of the road “Dunedin to Waikouaiti.”

  4. Contract No. 535—Maintenance of a portion of the road “Northern Trunk to Port Chalmers.”

  5. Contract No. 536—Maintenance of a portion of the road “Dunedin to North Taieri.”

Specifications may be seen and forms of tender obtained at the Office of the Engineer of Roads and Works, Dunedin.

Tenders to be endorsed “Roads and Works Tender for Contract Nos. 490, 491, 492, 493, 494, 495, 496, 497, 498, 499, 500, 501, 502, 503, 504, 505, 518, 519, 520, 521, 522, 523, 524, 525, 526, 535, or 536,” as the case may be.

Deposit required on total for maintenance portion of contract.

The Government does not undertake to accept the lowest or any tender.

Tenders to be endorsed “Roads and Works tender for Contracts Nos. 506, 507, 508, 509, 510, 511, 512, 513, 514, 515, 516, or 517,” as the case may be.
