the said lands should be so set apart accordingly. Now therefore I, James Macandrew, Superintendent of the Province of Otago, in pursuance and exercise of the power and authority vested in me in this behalf by the said Act, do hereby set apart the lands hereinafter described as a site for a settlement for colonization at Preservation Inlet (that is to say):—
All that area containing 100,000 acres, situate on the West Coast of the Province of Otago, and bounded towards the north by Chalky and Preservation Inlets, and a line extending from Cliff Cove to Last Cove; towards the east by a north and south line one mile to the east of Overseen Peak, and extending from Preservation Inlet on the north to the Ocean on the south, one hundred and thirty-eight thousand (138,000) links; towards the south by the Ocean, and towards the west by the Ocean and Preservation and Chalky Inlets; excepting out of the above description blocks I and II, Preservation District and the Town of Cromarty, as delineated on the Map of the said Province, deposited in the Survey Office at Dunedin.

NOTICE
Of certain Land in Palmerston, in the Province of Otago, having been reserved for purposes of Public Recreation.
By His Honor James Macandrew, Superintendent of the Province of Otago.
WHEREAS the Provincial Council of Otago have under and by virtue of Section 62 of the “Otago Waste Lands Act 1866” recommended that the lands hereinafter described should be reserved for purposes of Public Recreation for the Town of Palmerston and its inhabitants; and it is expedient that the said lands should be so reserved for that purpose:
Now therefore, I, James Macandrew, Superintendent of the Province of Otago, in pursuance and exercise of the power and authority vested in me in this behalf, do hereby publish and declare that I have made and dedicated the lands hereinafter described, a Reserve for purposes of Public Recreation in the Town of Palmerston and its inhabitants; (that is to say):
All that area situate in the Province of Otago, containing by admeasurement three (3) acres and two (2) roods, being sections numbered respectively 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, and 18, Block XVI, on the Map of the Town of Palmerston: bounded towards the north by Brough street seven hundred (700) links; towards the east by Stour street five hundred (500) links; towards the south by Stromness street seven hundred (700) links; and towards the west by sections numbered respectively 4 and 19, five hundred (500) links.
Dated at Dunedin, this fourth day of January, one thousand eight hundred and seventy.

NOTICE
To All Whom These Presents Shall Come, Greeting:
WHEREAS it is expedient that a Commission should be appointed to inquire into all matters connected with the parcel of land in the District of the Province of Otago, known as the Island Block, with power to call for all correspondence, reports, &c., and to take evidence in reference to same, and report thereon; Now therefore I, James Macandrew, Superintendent of the Province of Otago, do hereby nominate and appoint James Green, Esq., M.P.C., James M’Indoe, Esq., M.P.C., and James Clark Brown, Esq., M.P.C., to be Commissioners for the purposes aforesaid. And I do hereby nominate and appoint the said James M’Indoe to be Chairman of the said Commission.

CLOSING ROADS.
NOTICE is hereby given, that objections having been lodged with me against the shutting up of certain Road Lines, included in the “Roads Diversion Ordinance 1869,” situate in the Districts of Incholme, Landon, Kaihiku, Te Houka, and Moeraki; a Special Meeting of the Executive Council will be held in the Government Buildings, Dunedin, on Thursday, the third day of February, at noon, for the purpose of deciding the said objections, when parties interested are invited to be present.

Appointment of Trustees of Sinking Fund, to be set apart by the Council of the City of Dunedin.
HIS Honor the Superintendent has been pleased to appoint Arthur William Morris, Esquire, James Rattray, Esquire, and George Turnbull, Esquire, all of Dunedin, to be Trustees under “The Otago Municipal Corporations Ordinance 1865,” of the Sinking Fund, to be set apart by the Council of the City of Dunedin, under the provisions of the said Ordinance.

STAMP DUTIES.
Some misapprehension appears to exist as to the use of Impressed and Adhesive Stamps, and as to the Instruments to which Adhesive Stamps may be affixed, the public is informed that:
All instruments liable to Stamp Duty should be written on parchment or paper previously stamped by the Commissioners with an Impressed Stamp; but the Instruments under mentioned, and no others, may instead be stamped with Adhesive Stamps by the persons making or signing such instruments; provided the Stamps are affixed at the time of making or signing the instrument:

Bills of Lading.
Cheques on Banks or Bankers.
