PROVINCE OF OTAGO

Limits of the said Otago Gold Field

Now, therefore, His Honor James Macandrew, Superintendent of the Province of Otago, by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said Province, and by virtue and in exercise of the powers delegated to the Executive Government of the said Province of Otago in this behalf, and of the “Gold Fields Act 1866,” doth hereby proclaim and declare that all that area of land hereinafter described shall henceforth be included in, and form part of, the Otago Gold Field (that is to say)—

All that area situate in the Province of Otago, containing by estimation seventy thousand acres, more or less; bounded by a line proceeding from Kurow Mountain to and along the Little Awakino Stream to the Waitaki River; thence southerly to the confluence of the Otakaik Stream; thence westerly along the said Otakaik Stream and the southern boundary of Run 28 to the boundary of the present Gold Field; thence northerly along the said boundary to Kurow Mountain, the starting point.

ORDER IN COUNCIL

At the Provincial Government Buildings, Dunedin, the eleventh day of September, one thousand eight hundred and sixty-nine.

Present:

Donald Reid,
George M’Lean, and
John Lillie Gillies, Esquires,
Members of the Executive Council of the Province of Otago, being also Members of the Board.

WHEREAS by an Order in Council, made on the seventh day of November, 1868, and published in the Otago Provincial Government Gazette, No. 553, a Depasturing Regulation, Number 24, was made for the Otago Gold Field, providing that the Chairman of the Board of Wardens for the time being of the Tuapeka Depasturing District should receive applications for the depasturing of stock within that portion of the Tuapeka Depasturing District described in the Schedule to the said Order in Council of the seventh day of November, 1868: And whereas it is expedient to revoke the Regulation No. 24, so made by the said Order in Council of the seventh day of November, 1868, and to make another Regulation in lieu thereof:

Now, therefore, His Honor James Macandrew, Superintendent of the Province of Otago, with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said Province of Otago, doth, by virtue and in exercise of the powers delegated to the Executive Government of the Province of Otago in this behalf, hereby revoke the said Regulation No. 24, so made by the said Order in Council of the said seventh day of November, 1868, as aforesaid; and doth make the following Regulation in lieu thereof (that is to say)—

DEPASTURING REGULATIONS

Otago Gold Field

  1. Mr. John Mackay, one of the Inspectors of the Gold Field Depasturing District, shall be and he is hereby authorised to receive applications for the depasturing of stock within that portion of the Tuapeka Depasturing District described in the Schedule to the said Order in Council of the seventh day of November, 1868.

PROCLAMATION

High School Commission

By His Honor James Macandrew, Superintendent of the Province of Otago.

To ALL TO WHOM THESE PRESENTS SHALL COME, GREETING:

WHEREAS it is expedient that a Commission should be appointed to enquire into and report upon the best site and scheme for a High School, and as to whether it is expedient that provision should be made in the same building for the teaching of girls as well as boys:

Now, therefore, I, James Macandrew, Superintendent of the Province of Otago, do hereby nominate and appoint

  • His Honor Mr. Justice Ward
  • The Honorable Francis Dillon Bell
  • William Hunter Reynolds, Esq., Speaker of the Provincial Council of the Province of Otago
  • The Reverend Donald M’Naughton Stuart
  • George Turnbull, Esq.
  • James M’Indoe, Esq.
  • George M’Lean, Esq.
  • Donald Reid, Esq.
  • Bryan Cecil Haggitt, Esq.
  • George Duncan, Esq.
  • John Lillie Gillies, Esq., and
  • John Mouat, Esq.

to be Commissioners to enquire into and report upon the best site and scheme for a High School, and upon the expediency of making provision in the same building for the teaching of girls as well as boys.

Given under my hand and issued under the Public Seal of the Province of Otago, at Dunedin, this twentieth day of September, one thousand eight hundred and sixty-nine.

His Honor the Superintendent directs it to be notified that he appointed Andrew Robert Bruce Thomson, Esq., to be Inspector of Sheep for the Province of Otago, vice Arthur Kennedy, deceased.

NOTICE

Notice is hereby given, that the applications made by John Kenny, for Agricultural Leases of Sections 51, 107, 108, and 109, Block II, Leaning Rock District, and Section 100, same Block and District, have been withdrawn, and the land is now open for application under the Agricultural Lease Regulations.

CAUTION

A FIXED DEPOSIT RECEIPT, at Six Months, No. 19076, for one hundred and sixty pounds sterling, dated 20th March, 1869, issued by the Bank of New Zealand, Dunedin, having been lost, the public are cautioned from dealing with the same.
