NOTICE is hereby given that a sitting of the said Court for the despatch of Criminal business will be holden at the Supreme Court House, Dunedin, on Monday, the first day of March next at ten o’clock in the forenoon, at which time and place all persons under recognizances to appear as prosecutors, defendants, or witnesses are hereby required to give their attendance.

And notice is hereby further given that a sitting of the said Court for the despatch of civil business will be holden at the Supreme Court House aforesaid, on Wednesday, the 10th day of March next, at the hour of ten o’clock in the forenoon.

THE PARTNERSHIP heretofore existing between

Michael Gaffney and Michael M’Garry, trading as Wine and Spirit Merchants at St. Bathans, and carried on under the name and style of Gaffney and M’Garry, has this day been dissolved by mutual consent. The business in future will be carried on and all debts due to the firm collected by Michael Gaffney.

THE Partnership heretofore existing between the undersigned, as proprietors and publishers of the Illustrated New Zealand Herald, under the designation of Carrick and Co., is this day dissolved by mutual consent. All debts due to the said co-partners will be collected by R. T. Wheeler, by whom also the liabilities of the said concern will be discharged.

PROCLAMATION.

WHEREAS by “The Weights and Measures Act, 1868,” it is enacted that it shall be lawful for the Governor from time to time to appoint an Inspector of Weights and Measures for any Province, or for each of two or more divisions of any Province; the boundaries of which divisions shall be proclaimed from time to time in the New Zealand Gazette by the Governor:

Now therefore I, Sir George Ferguson Bowen, the Governor of New Zealand, in exercise of the power conferred on me by the said Act, do hereby proclaim that from and after the 10th day of February next, the Province of Otago shall be divided, for the purposes of the said Act, into seven divisions, as defined in the Schedule hereto.

Given under the hand of His Excellency Sir George Ferguson Bowen, Knight Grand Cross of the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George, Governor and Commander-in-Chief in and over Her Majesty’s Colony of New Zealand and its Dependencies, and Vice-Admiral of the same, at the Government House at Wellington; and issued under the Seal of the said Colony, this twenty-eighth day of January, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixty-nine.

SCHEDULE.

PROVINCE OF OTAGO:

Hawksbury Division.

Comprising all that area bounded towards the North by the Province of Canterbury; towards the East by the Pacific Ocean; towards the South by the Waitati Stream, the Silver Peak Hills, and the Taieri and Sutton Streams; and towards the West by the Rock and Pillar Mountains; thence by the ranges to Deep Dell Creek, by the Deep Dell Creek and the ranges to the Kakanui Mountains; thence by the Kakanui, the Hawkdun and the Dunstan Mountains.

Dunedin Division.

Comprising all that area bounded towards the North by the Hawksbury District aforesaid; towards the East by the ocean aforesaid; towards the South by the Taieri and Waipori Rivers; and towards the West by the Verter Burn and Lammermoor Ranges.

Tokomairiro Division.

Comprising all that area bounded towards the North by the Umbrella Ranges to Mount Benger; thence by the ranges to the Tapanui Mountains; thence by Black Cleugh Burn, by the Clutha and Waitahuna Rivers; thence by the Dull Burn; thence by the Stuart and Waitahuna Ranges; thence by the Waipori and Taieri Rivers; towards the East by the ocean aforesaid; towards the South by the ocean aforesaid; and towards the West by the Mataura River.

Tuapeka Division.

Comprising all that area bounded towards the North by the Ranges between Mount Benger and Lammerlaw; towards the East by the said Districts of Dunedin and Tokomairiro; towards the South by the Tokomairiro District aforesaid; and towards the West by the Tokomairiro District aforesaid.

Mount Ida Division.

Comprising all that area bounded towards the North by the Hawksbury District aforesaid; towards the East by the said Districts of Dunedin and Tuapeka; towards the South-east by the Dunedin and Hawksbury Districts aforesaid; and towards the West and North-west by Rough Ridge; thence to the Hawkdun Mountains aforesaid.

Dunstan Division.

Comprising all that area bounded towards the North by the said Province of Canterbury; towards the East by the aforesaid Hawksbury and Mount Ida Districts; towards the South by the Tuapeka District aforesaid; and towards the West by the Umbrella, Cairnmur, Pisa, and Earnslaw Ranges.

Wakatipu Division.

Comprising all that area bounded towards the North by the Canterbury Province aforesaid; towards the East by the said Districts of Dunstan and Tokomairiro; towards the South by the Province of Southland and the ocean; and towards the West by the said ocean.

In pursuance and exercise of the power and authority in this behalf enabling me, I, Sir George Ferguson Bowen, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, do hereby fix and appoint that sittings of the District Court of the Otago Gold Fields, additional to those already appointed, shall be held as follows:—

In the Resident Magistrate’s Court at Lawrence, on the second Tuesday in April next.

In the Resident Magistrate’s Court at Naseby, on the second Wednesday in May next.

In the Resident Magistrate’s Court at Clyde on the Monday next after the second Wednesday in May next.

In the Resident Magistrate’s Court at Queenstown, on the Monday next after the second Wednesday in May next.

As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor, this twenty-third day of January, one thousand eight hundred and sixty-nine.
