for the Governor, by warrant under his hand, from time to time to appoint polling places for each Electoral District, within or without the limits thereof, and to appoint any one of such places to be the principal polling place for the district, and all or any of such polling places at any time to abolish, and to appoint other polling places in lieu thereof: And whereas, by warrant under the hand of the Governor, the following places were appointed polling places and principal polling places for the districts hereinafter mentioned, for the election of Superintendent and Members of the Provincial Council for the Province of Otago, viz.:—

For the District of Wakari—
The School House, Wakari.

For the District of Port Chalmers—
The Court House, Port Chalmers.

And whereas it is expedient to abolish the same: Now know ye that I, Sir George Ferguson Bowen, the Governor of the said Colony, in pursuance of the power and authority in me vested by the said Act, do hereby abolish the above-named polling places and principal polling places for the said districts, for the election of Superintendent and Members of the Provincial Council of the said Province of Otago.

Given under the hand of His Excellency Sir George Ferguson Bowen, Knight Grand Cross of the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George, Governor and Commander-in-Chief in and over Her Majesty’s Colony of New Zealand and its Dependencies, and Vice-Admiral of the same, at the Government House, at Wellington, this sixteenth day of October, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixty-eight.

To all to whom these presents shall come, Greeting:

Whereas by an Act of the General Assembly, intituled “The Regulation of Elections Act 1858,” it is enacted that it shall be lawful for the Governor, by warrant under his hand, from time to time to appoint polling places for each Electoral District, within or without the limits thereof, and to appoint any one of such places to be the principal polling place for the district, and all or any of such polling places at any time to abolish, and to appoint other polling places in lieu thereof: And whereas by another Act of the General Assembly, intituled “The Provincial Elections Act 1858,” it is enacted that, subject to certain provisions therein contained, every election of the Superintendent or of a Member of the Provincial Council of a Province shall be conducted in the manner prescribed by “The Regulation of Elections Act 1858,” aforesaid, and the provisions of the said last-mentioned Act shall apply to the elections of Superintendents and Members of Provincial Council:

Now therefore I, Sir George Ferguson Bowen, the Governor of the said Colony, in pursuance of the power and authority in me vested by the said Acts, do hereby appoint the following places to be additional polling places for the districts hereinafter mentioned, for the election of Superintendent and Members of the Provincial Council of the said Province of Otago, viz.:

District of Taieri—The School House, Maungatua.
District of Clutha—The School House, Popotunoa.
District of Dunstan—The Court House, Black’s No. 1.
District of the Lakes—The Residence of Mr. Braden, Frankton.
District of Manuherekia—The Court House, Naseby, and the Court House, Hamilton.
District of Tuapeka—The Court House, Waipori; the School House, Blue Spur; and the School House, Weatherstones.
District of Wakatipu—The Court House, Moa Flat.
District of Waikouaiti—The Court House, M’Rae’s Flat.
District of Wakari—The Drill Shed, Kaikorai.
District of Port Chalmers—The School House, Port Chalmers.

His Excellency the Governor has been pleased to appoint Joseph Barnes Borron, Esq., to be Registrar of Marriages, and of Births, Deaths, and Marriages, for the District of Mount Benger, as the same is defined in Proclamation of 30th day of November, 1865, and published in the New Zealand Gazette, No. 48, of 11th December, 1865; vice John Smith Hickson, Esquire, resigned.
