A PROCLAMATION.

WHEREAS by "The Public Revenues Act 1868," it is enacted that it shall be lawful for the Governor, by Proclamation published in the New Zealand Gazette, to proclaim and bring into operation the said Act, or from time to time any parts thereof, at such time as the Governor shall think fit, and that no part of the said Act except the second section thereof (which it is enacted shall come into operation on the passing of the said Act), shall come into operation until such part shall be so proclaimed and brought into operation, or until the time fixed in the proclamation for the coming into operation thereof:

Now therefore I, Sir George Ferguson Bowen, the Governor of New Zealand, in exercise and in pursuance of the power and authority vested in me in this behalf, do hereby proclaim and declare that the sections of "The Public Revenues Act 1868" aforesaid, numbered respectively four, five, seven, twelve, thirteen, fourteen, and fifteen, shall come into operation on the first day of November, one thousand eight hundred and sixty-eight, and that the remainder of the said Act, exclusive of the sections lastly hereinbefore enumerated, and of the section numbered two, shall come into operation on the first day of January, one thousand eight hundred and sixty-nine.

Given under the hand of His Excellency Sir George Ferguson Bowen, Knight Grand Cross of the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George, Governor and Commander-in-Chief in and over Her Majesty’s Colony of New Zealand and its Dependencies, and Vice-Admiral of the same, at the Government House, at Wellington, this tenth day of October, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixty-eight.

WHEREAS by "The Otago Municipal Corporations Empowering Act, 1865," it is enacted that it shall be lawful for the Governor to appoint the person elected to be Mayor of any city or incorporated town as therein mentioned, to be a Justice of the Peace for the Colony, provided that in every such case such appointment shall continue no longer than the Mayoralty of such person: And whereas James Elder Brown, Esquire, has been elected Mayor for the town of Milton:

Now therefore I, Sir George Ferguson Bowen, the Governor of New Zealand, in pursuance and in exercise of the power and authority vested in me in that behalf, do hereby appoint the said

JAMES ELDER BROWN, Esq.,

to be a Justice of the Peace for the Colony of New Zealand.
