Remarks.
High wind on 2nd, 3rd and 7th, from S.W.
Large earthquake wave reported on Eastern Coast on 15th.
Splendid lunar halo showing the prismatic colors seen on the evening of the 30th.
Snow fell on the 23rd.

Note.—The results of all the self-registering instruments were recorded on the dates above given, and therefore occurred during the preceding 24 hours.

REGULATION

The terms and conditions upon which such leases might be held, occupied, assigned, transferred, forfeited and cancelled, the amount of rent payable therefor, the terms of payment, and the conditions upon, and the manner in which, entry to search for gold, or for any metal or mineral upon any land so leased, might be authorised: And whereas it is expedient to add an additional Regulation to the Regulations so proclaimed as aforesaid.

Now, therefore, His Honor, Thomas Fraser, Deputy Superintendent of the Province of Otago, with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the Province of Otago, doth, by virtue and in exercise of the powers delegated to the Executive Government of the Province of Otago, in this behalf, hereby make the Regulation following in addition to the said Regulations proclaimed as aforesaid, on the said twelfth day of February last:

REGULATION.

  1. Areas must be fenced by lessee or holder.

Every certificate and lease granted under these Regulations shall be subject to a condition that the holder of the certificate, or the lessee (as the case may be) shall, at his own expense and charges, erect, and at all times maintain, during the currency of the lease, a good and substantial fence around the land held by virtue of such certificate or lease respectively, sufficient to keep in both sheep and cattle, and that no runholder upon whose run the area comprised in such certificate or lease, or which shall adjoin thereto, shall be liable to pay to the owner of such certificate, or to the lessee, (as the case may be) any portion of the cost of fencing such area, any law or Ordinance to the contrary, notwithstanding; and a covenant to the effect of this Regulation may be inserted in any such certificate or lease, and if not so inserted, shall be implied therein.

APPLICATION FOR DEPASTURING LEASE

OUTSIDE HUNDREDS.—Notice is hereby given that the following Application for a Depasturing Lease has been made to the Waste Land Board, in accordance with the provisions of the 91st Section of the Otago Waste Land Act, 1866—"Any persons desiring to object to such lease may do so by lodging with the Board, within three months after the first publication in the Provincial Government Gazette of the said application, a statement in writing of the grounds of their objections, and no objection made after the said period of three months shall be entertained by the Board."

Otago and Southland District.

In the matter of the petition of CHRISTOPHER CALDWELL, of Dunedin, in the Province of Otago, bank manager, praying for adjudication of bankruptcy against GERIT ALEXANDER CHALMERS of Moa Flat Station, in the said Province of Otago, sheep farmer.

NOTICE is hereby given, that the above-named Gerit Alexander Chalmers has this day been adjudicated a bankrupt, and that he is required to surrender at the Supreme Court House, Dunedin, on Tuesday, the twenty-second day of September instant, at the hour of ten o’clock in the forenoon; and notice is hereby further given, that the first meeting of the creditors of the said bankrupt is appointed to be held at the same place and time.
