Now, therefore, I, James Macandrew, Esquire, Superintendent of the Province of Otago, in pursuance and exercise of the power and authority vested in me by the said recited Act, do hereby declare that I approve of the said Benevolent Institution at Caversham aforesaid as an Industrial School for the purposes of the said Act, and do order that from and after the date hereof, and until further notice, the said Benevolent Institution at Caversham aforesaid shall be deemed to be an Industrial School within the meaning and for the purposes of "The Neglected and Criminal Children Act, 1867."
Given under my hand, at the Provincial Buildings, Princes-street, Dunedin, and issued under the Seal of the Province of Otago, this twenty-seventh day of November, one thousand eight hundred and sixty-seven.

GOVERNMENT LAND SALES IN EAST AND WEST CLUTHA AND SOUTH TOKOMAIRIRO HUNDREDS.—In consequence of the Presbyterian fast-day in Dunedin being fixed for Thursday, the twelfth December, 1867, the sale by Messrs Wright Robertson and Co., of land within the above Hundreds is hereby postponed for one day, viz., to Friday, 13th December.

BYE LAWS OF THE CORPORATION OF THE TOWN OF QUEENSTOWN.
A Bye-Law for regulating Hackney Carriages, Cabs, Coaches, and other passenger vehicles, and the Owners and Drivers thereof plying for hire within the Town of Queenstown, or arriving and departing therefrom with passengers, or of Pack Horses plying for hire within, and to and from the said town.
- All Public Carriages must be Licensed.
This Bye-law shall apply to all Hackney Carriages, except Stage Coaches that run long distances, Coaches, or other vehicles of any description whatsoever, that ply for hire within the Town of Queenstown, or be kept or let for hire therein; and, unless the same shall be duly licensed by the Town Clerk for the time being for said town of Queenstown, the owner thereof shall pay for such license one pound sterling (£1), and the like sum annually for its renewal in every succeeding twelve calendar months, the name and residence of the owner to be at the same time duly registered by the Town Clerk. Any such license may be duly transferred by endorsement, signed by the Town Clerk, on payment of a fee of two shillings and sixpence (2s. 6d.), and subject always to the conditions in Clause No. 2 of this bye-law.
- The Name of Owner to be submitted.
Before a license for any such vehicle as aforesaid shall be granted, the owner or other person having charge of the same shall submit his name to the Town Clerk, who shall obtain the sanction of the Mayor, or of one Councillor of the said town, and no license shall be issued without said approval; and no person deemed by the Mayor or said Councillor to be unfit to hold a license shall be entrusted therewith, subject to the right of appeal by applicant to the Council of said town.
- Driver must be Licensed.
No person shall act as the driver of any Hackney or any such vehicle unless he shall have a license granted and in force under the provisions of this bye-law, and for every such license a fee of One Shilling shall be paid.
- Owner or Driver must not part with License.
No Owner or Driver of a Licensed Carriage shall lend or part with his license, nor shall any unlicensed person be permitted as a driver of any such licensed carriage.
- Duration of Licenses.
All Licenses under this bye-law, at whatever period of the year the same may be granted, shall remain in force until the 31st December thereafter, but a license may be issued for a fraction of a year; but any such license shall not be issued at a less cost than five shillings.
- The Number of Carriage to be shown.
The Owner or Driver of any Hackney Carriage of whatsoever description shall have painted so as to be distinct and visible his name thereon, together with the number of his license.
- Carriages must drive at a walk by Places of Worship during Service.
The Driver of any licensed carriage, or of any private vehicle or carriage of whatsoever description, driving the same by any place of Public Worship during the hours of Divine Service therein shall drive such carriage while passing such place of Public Worship at a walking pace.
- Stands for Carriages.
Such places as the said Council shall from time to time appoint shall be the public stands for carriages, and other vehicles applying for hire.
- Furious Driving and Violent Conduct.
No owner or driver shall, while having the care of, or being attendant upon, any licensed or private vehicle, drive the same furiously, wantonly, or carelessly, or be drunk, or use any obscene, or any blasphemous language, or any threatening, abusive or insulting words or gestures.
- Carriage and Harness to be in good condition.
The owner of every licensed vehicle shall at all times have the same in good order and repair, and the harness perfect and in good condition, and the whole sufficient for duty.
