POST OFFICE SAVINGS BANKS.—Notice is hereby given that Savings Banks will be opened by Government at the following Post Offices, where Deposits will be received and Payments made from the 1st of April next.

  1. Interest at the rate of 5 per cent. per annum is given on sums less than £200; at the rate of 4 per cent. per annum on sums over £200; and in the same proportions for any shorter time on every complete £1 deposited, provided that no interest be allowed on more than £500.

  2. Depositors in the Post Office Savings Bank have direct Government security for the prompt repayment of their money.

  3. A Depositor in any one of the Post Office Banks can continue his deposits at any other of such Banks, and can withdraw his money at that Post Office Bank which is most convenient to him.

  4. The strictest secrecy is observed with respect to the names of Depositors in Post Office Banks, and the amounts of their deposits.

  5. Married women may deposit money in the Post Office Savings Bank, and money so deposited will be repaid to the Depositor, unless her husband gives notice, in writing, of marriage, and claims payment of the deposits.

  6. Money may be deposited by or on behalf of Minors. Depositors over seven years of age are treated as persons of full age, but minors under seven years of age cannot withdraw their deposits until after they have reached the age of seven.

  7. Applications to the Chief Office in each Province on the business of Post Office Savings Banks, and the replies sent thereto, are free from charge from postage.

TOMAHAWK DISTRICT ROAD RATE.—Notice is hereby given that the said Rate will be payable to the undersigned Collector, at his house, Tomahawk District, on and after the tenth day of May, 1867, and that payment must be made within thirty days of said date, or legal proceedings will be taken for recovery of same.

IMPOUNDED, on the thirtieth day of April, 1867, by Edward Downes, Ranger, Waikouaiti Hundred, one Brown Mare, branded S on near shoulder, off hind fetlock white, and saddle marked, owner unknown, for trespassing on Waikouaiti Hundred, for which two pound damages are claimed, and, in default of being released, the above Mare will be sold at the Public Pound, at Hawksbury, on Friday, the thirty-first day of May, 1867, at twelve o’clock noon.

NOTICE.—All Road Rates due to the Deborah Bay Road Board for the year ending thirty-first May, 1867, not paid to the Collector, at Mr Mawson’s shop, Port Chalmers, on or before eleventh May, 1867, legal steps will be taken to recover the same.
