Public Works and Licensing Notices




Works carried out by subscription.

  1. When it is desired to secure a subsidy to supplement local subscriptions for constructing any road or roads, a statement in writing must be laid before and approved by the Superintendent of Otago of the proposed work, together with an approximate estimate of the outlay required, and the advantages likely to arise from the work.

  2. When the road or roads proposed is or are situated within a Road District, such statement must be forwarded to the said Superintendent through the Local Board of such district.

  3. The Government will, without unnecessary delay, decide whether it is prepared to assist in carrying out such work, and, if willing, to what extent it will grant two pounds for every one pound subscribed.

Upon such last mentioned sum being paid into the said Treasury, or sufficient security given for the same to the satisfaction of the Government, credit will be given for it, together with two pounds additional for every one pound paid in or for which such security is given.

  1. Payments will be made as the work progresses; and the Government will, if deemed advisable, lend the assistance of its own officers to inspect such work, and if it considers it necessary shall have the power of inspecting the conditions of the sixth clause hereinbefore contained, as far as the circumstances admit, are applicable to this clause.

PUBLICANS’ LICENCES.—Quarterly Meetings under the “Licensing Ordinance, 1865.”—Notice is hereby given, that a Meeting of Justices will be held in the Resident Magistrate’s Court House, Dunedin, and also at the Resident Magistrate’s Court House at each of the following places, viz.:—Fort Chalmers, Clyde, Queenstown, Oamaru, Waikouaiti, Taieri, Toko- mairo, Clutha, Naseby, Lawrence, Saint Bathans, Mount Benger, Cromwell, Arrow, at noon on Tuesday, the 5th day of March, 1867, for the purpose of taking into consideration all applications for General, General Night, and Bottle Licences, and for the transfer, renewal, or removal of such Licences, of which due notice shall have been given to the Clerk of the said Resident Magistrate’s Courts respectively, as directed by the said Ordinance, at which time and place all persons having business thereat are required to give their attendance.

TENDERS will be received at the Office of the Secretary for Public Works, until noon of Monday the 25th February, for—

  1. Clutha to Mataura.—Contract No. 237. Construction of a portion of the Road near the Waiwera Bridge.

  2. Clutha to Mataura.—Contract No. 238. Construction of a portion of the Road about 8 miles from Balclutha.

  3. Southern Trunk to Molyneux.—Contract No. 239. Construction of portions of the Road near Brady’s Creek, Oamaru Stream and Puerua.

  4. Jetty Sheds.—Contract No. 240. Erection of Shed on the New Jetty, Jetty-street, Dunedin.

Plans and Specifications may be seen, and forms of tender obtained, at the Office of the Engineer of Roads and Works, Dunedin; the plans, &c., for Contract No. 240, will not be seen until on and after the 19th inst.

Tenders to be indorsed “Roads and Works, Tender for Contract No. 237, 238, 239 or 240,” as the case may be.

The Government does not undertake to accept the lowest or any Tender.

Colonial Secretary’s Office,
Wellington, 2nd February, 1867.

TENDERS will be received at this office until 1st of April, 1867, from persons willing to supply the New Zealand Government with Stationery, to be delivered, free of expense in this Colony at such port as the Government may indicate, for the twelve months commencing on the 1st May, 1867.

The articles are enumerated in the New Zealand Gazette of 4th February current, and are to be of the best description of their several kinds.

The Tenderers will be required to forward samples of the paper.

A bond for the sum of £1000—the Contractor in the sum of £500, and two sureties £250 each, for the due performance of the contract—will be required to be entered into within a month of the acceptance of the contract.

Tenders to be endorsed “Roads and Works—Tender for Contract No. 235” or “236,” as the case may be.

The Government does not undertake to accept the lowest or any tender.

SALE OF CROWN LANDS.—Section No. 32, Block 1, Otokia District, formerly Bush Reserve.—Notice is hereby given that the reserve will be withdrawn from Section No. 32, Block 1, Otokia District, and that the said section will be put up to sale by public auction, within the Land Office, on Thursday, the 21st of February next, at 12 o’clock noon, in terms of Clause LXIV. of the Otago Waste Lands Act, 1866.

AN Adjourned Meeting of the Education Board will be held at the Government Offices, Dunedin, upon Thursday, the 21st day of February, 1867, at noon.
