TENDERS will be received at the Office of the Secretary for Public Works, until noon of Monday, the 28th January, for :-
1st. Waihemo to Macrae’s Flat—Contract No. 223.—Formation of about 33½ Chains of Road, near Wayne’s Station.
2nd. East Taieri Bridge to Tokomairiro—Contract No. 224.—Supply of 3,000 Cubic Yards of Road Metal.
3rd. Main Road through Dunedin—Contract No. 225.—Supply of 2,500 Cubic Yards of Road Metal.
4th. North Trunk to Port Chalmers—Contract No. 226.—Supply of 1,000 Cubic Yards of Road Metal.
5th. Tokomairiro to Tuapeka—Contract No. 227.—Supply of 2,500 Cubic yards of gravel.
6th. Tokomairiro to Clutha—Contract No. 228.—Supply of 1,000 Cubic Yards of Road Metal between South Tokomairiro River and Lovell’s Flat.
7th. Saddle Hill to West Taieri Bridge—Contract No. 229.—Supply of 1,000 Cubic Yards of Road Metal.
8th. Dunedin to North Taieri—Contract No. 230.—Supply of 350 Cubic Yards of Road Metal.
9th. North Trunk Road to Moeraki Port—Contract No. 231.—Supply of 200 Cubic Yards of Road Metal.
10th. Dunedin to Portobello—Contract No. 232.—Supply of 400 Yards of Road Metal.
Plans and Specifications may be seen, and forms of Tender obtained, at the Office of the Engineer of Roads and Works, Dunedin.
Tenders to be indorsed “Roads and Works—Tender for Contracts Nos. 223, 224, 225, 226, 227, 228, 229, 230, 231, 232,” as the case may be.
The Government does not undertake to accept the lowest or any tender.
CROMWELL TO QUEENSTOWN.—Tenders will be received at the Office of the Secretary for Public Works, until noon of Monday, the 11th February, for Contract No. 204—Construction of portions of Road near Arrow Cliff.
Plans and specifications may be seen, and forms of tender obtained, at the Office of the Engineer of Roads and Works, Dunedin; and at the Office of the District Engineer, Cromwell.
Tenders to be indorsed “Roads and Works—Tender for Contract No. 204.”
The Government does not undertake to accept the lowest or any tender.
OTAGO GOVERNMENT RURAL LAND SALES.
About 100,000 Acres for Sale, at the Upset Price of 10s. per Acre.
NOTICE is hereby given, that the Waste Land Board of Otago have resolved, with the sanction of the Superintendent and Provincial Council, to sell by auction, under the powers conferred by clause 85 of the “Otago Waste Lands Act, 1866,” the unsold surveyed lands within the Hundreds of Dunedin, East and West Taieri, Waihola, North and South Tokomairiro, and East and West Clutha, at the upset price of 10s. per acre.
There are about 100 allotments in the Dunedin Hundred, containing from 7 to 90 acres.
In the East Taieri, about 110 allotments, containing from 10 to 235 acres.
In the West Taieri, about 100 allotments, containing from 26 to 290 acres.
In the North Tokomairiro, about 125 allotments, containing from 20 to 285 acres.
In the South Tokomairiro, about 160 allotments, containing from 26 to 290 acres.
In the West Clutha, about 59 allotments, containing from 26 to 290 acres.
In the East Clutha, about 114 allotments, containing from 19 to 190 acres.
In the Waihola, about 220 allotments, containing from 15 to 400 acres.
The sale of the above lands will commence on Monday, the 25th day of February, 1867, at 12 o’clock, within the Provincial Council Hall, Government Buildings, Dunedin; and will begin with the allotments in the Dunedin Hundred, followed by those in the other Hundreds, in the order named above. The sale will be continued from day to day. This Gazette can be obtained at the Waste Land Office, Dunedin, the Survey Offices at Lawrence, Clyde, and Queenstown, and at all the Post-offices and School-houses throughout the Province.

The following Clauses of “The Crown Land Sales Extortion Prevention Act” are published for general information :-
II. Every person who shall directly or indirectly offer or propose to accept or receive money or other valuable consideration as an inducement to abstain from bidding or competing as a purchaser or intending purchaser of land belonging to the Crown advertised for sale by public auction and whether or not the same land shall actually be put up for sale or otherwise shall be deemed to be guilty of a misdemeanour and be liable on conviction thereof to be imprisoned for any period not exceeding twelve calendar months and with or without hard labor or to be fined any sum not exceeding two hundred pounds sterling.
III. Every person who shall actually receive money or other valuable consideration for abstaining to bid or compete for the purchase of any Crown Lands which shall have been advertised for sale by public auction and whether or not the same land shall be put up for sale by public auction shall be deemed to have been guilty of a misdemeanour and shall on conviction thereof be liable to be imprisoned with or without hard labor for any period not exceeding two years or fined any sum not exceeding five hundred pounds.
IV. Every person from whom money or other valuable consideration shall have been extorted by the means aforesaid may recover the amount or value of the consideration so extorted in an action for money had and received.
V. It shall be lawful for the Commissioner of Crown Lands in any Province of the Colony or any other person conducting any sale by public auction of Waste Lands of the Crown or any person attending any such sale to require that a declaration in the form of the Schedule to this Act appended shall be made and signed by any person desiring to bid or bidding at such sale and no bid from any such person shall be received until he shall have made and signed such declaration.
VIII. Any Commissioner of Crown Lands or other person connected with the administration of any of the Waste Lands of the Colony who shall cause or attempt to cause or knowingly permit any person to apply for the purchase of any portion of the Waste Lands of the Crown such applicant not being a bona fide intending purchaser or who shall knowingly countenance or permit any collusion or arrangement between intending purchasers of land having for its object to preclude or supersede the necessity of bona fide competition at any such auction sale as aforesaid shall on conviction thereof be liable to a penalty not exceeding fifty pounds and shall for ever thereafter be rendered incapable of holding any office or employment under the Crown.
BLUESKIN BAY ROAD DISTRICT.—NOTICE.
The Local Board of the Blueskin Bay District hereby notify their intention to apply to the General Road Board, at its next meeting, for authority to levy a Highway Rate of Three Pence per acre in said District for the year 1867. Also, the Assessment Roll for said District can be inspected fourteen days from date, at the Store of Mr. Thomas Yuayle, Blueskin, between the hours of 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. (Sundays and public holidays excepted).
