PROCLAMATION

Declaring a portion of the Province of Otago an Infected District, under the provisions of the “Diseased Cattle Act, 1861.”

By His Honor Thomas Dick, Esquire, Superintendent of the said Province.

WHEREAS John Hyde Harris, Esquire, the then Superintendent of the Province of Otago, by virtue and in exercise of the powers delegated to and vested in him as such Superintendent in that behalf, did, by Proclamation in the Government Gazette of the said Province, dated the first day of September, one thousand eight hundred and sixty-four, proclaim and declare a certain District or portion of the said Province, in the said Proclamation particularly described, to be an Infected District within the meaning and for the purposes of the “Diseased Cattle Act, 1861.” And whereas by another Proclamation published in the said Gazette, and bearing date the sixth day of November following, the said John Hyde Harris, as such Superintendent as aforesaid, did extend the limits of the said Infected District, so as to include therein another portion of the said Province in the said last-mentioned Proclamation particularly described: And whereas by another Proclamation published in the said Gazette, and bearing date the twenty-seventh day of December following, the said John Hyde Harris, as such Superintendent as aforesaid, did again extend the limits of the said Infected District, so as to include therein another portion of the said Province in the said last-mentioned Proclamation particularly described: And whereas it is expedient still further to extend the limits of the said Infected District, so as to include therein the whole of the territory hereinafter described:— Now therefore I, Thomas Dick, Esquire, Superintendent of the said Province of Otago, by virtue and in exercise of the powers delegated to and vested in me in this behalf, do hereby proclaim and declare that, from and after the day of the date hereof, the limits and boundaries hereinafter described shall be the limits and boundaries of the said Infected District, and shall include the territory hereinafter mentioned, which territory shall be deemed an Infected District within the meaning and for the purposes of the said “Diseased Cattle Act 1861,” (that is to say)—

All that area within the Province of Otago, bounded towards the north by the Province of Canterbury, from Awarua Bay to the eastern shore of the Wanaka Lake, thence by the said eastern shore of the Wanaka Lake and the Clutha River to the Dunstan Mountains, thence by the Dunstan Mountains to Mount Saint Bathans, thence by the Hawkdun Mountains, the Kakanui Mountains, and the Horse Ranges to the Ocean, thence towards the east by the Ocean to the Taieri River, thence by the Taieri River to the Waipori Lake and River, thence due west from Waipori River to Waitahuna Hill, thence in a direct line to the northern corner of the North Tokomairiro Hundred, thence in a direct line to Trig. Station E, Table Hill District, thence by the leading ridge to and across the road line forming the north-eastern boundary of block I, Table Hill District, thence along the south-western boundary of the said road line and its continuation to the Main South Road, thence by the north-western side of the Main South Road proceeding in a north-easterly direction to the Taieri River, thence by the Taieri River across the Main South Road, thence proceeding in a south-westerly direction by the south-eastern side of the Main South Road to the eastern branch of the Tokomairiro River, thence by the said eastern branch to its junction with the western branch of the said Tokomairiro River, thence by the said western branch of the Tokomairiro River to the Main South Road, thence by the south-eastern side of the Main South Road in a south-westerly direction to the Coal Reserve in Block X, North Tuakitoto District, thence by a line proceeding in a...
