[WITH SUPPLEMENT.]
MUNICIPAL CORPORATION OF QUEENSTOWN.
Appointment of Gilbert Francis Percy to prepare the Citizens’ Roll for the Incorporated Town of Queenstown.
WHEREAS the Town of Queenstown, by Proclamation dated the twenty-eighth day of March last, and published in the Otago Government Gazette, No. 413, incorporated by the name of the “Corporation of the Town of Queenstown,” and certain provisions of the “Otago Municipal Corporations Ordinance, 1865,” were by such Proclamation extended to and declared applicable to and within the municipality thereby created: And whereas by the 117th section of the said “Otago Municipal Corporations Ordinance, 1865,” it is amongst other things enacted that for the purposes of the first elections under the said Ordinance of Mayor, Councillors, and Auditors for any town or place to which the provisions of the said Ordinance, or any of them, should be extended, as therein provided, the Superintendent of Otago for the time being should appoint some fit and proper person to prepare the Citizens’ Roll for such town and place, the expense of which should be borne and paid by the Council of the town or place elected thereunder, for which any such Citizens’ Roll should be prepared: And whereas Gilbert Francis Percy of Queenstown, has been represented to me to be a fit and proper person to prepare the Citizens’ Roll for the said Incorporated Town of Queenstown;—Now therefore I, Thomas Dick, Superintendent of the Province of Otago, in exercise of the powers vested in me by the said “Otago Municipal Corporations Ordinance, 1865,” do nominate and appoint the said Gilbert Francis Percy to be the person to prepare the Citizens’ Roll for the said Incorporated Town of Queenstown.
As witness my hand this eighteenth day of April, one thousand eight hundred and sixty-six.
Thomas Dick,
Superintendent.
IT is hereby notified that a Writ, issued for the election of a person to serve as Member of the Provincial Council for the Waikouaiti District, in place of Julius Vogel, Esquire, has been duly returned, with a certificate, dated 12th April, 1866, to the effect that Macleod Clement Orbell, Esquire, has been duly returned.
H. J. Miller,
Provincial Secretary.
17th April, 1866.
His Honor the Superintendent directs the publication of the following Letter and Supplementary Return. The principal Return was published in Gazette No. 398, of date 20th December 1865:—
Frederick J. Moss,
Provincial Treasurer.
12th April, 1866.
Sheep Inspector’s Department,
Dunedin, 10th April, 1866.
Sir— I have the honor to forward annexed List of Returns received from Sheepowners after the Annual Report was published.
The total number of sheep in the Province for the year 1865 will be thus increased from one million two hundred and seventy-two thousand one hundred and thirty-five (1,272,135) to one million three hundred and forty-four thousand seven hundred and twenty-one (1,344,721), which shows an increase over last year’s returns of one hundred and thirty-nine thousand two hundred and seventy (139,270).
I trust that the stringent measures adopted by the Sub-Inspectors against those parties who omitted to send in their returns at the proper time, will prevent the necessity of having again to wait so long before the completion of my report.
I have the honor to be,
Sir,
Your most obedient servant,
Geo. Thomson,
Chief Inspector of Sheep.
His Honor the Superintendent of Otago.
