30.—QUEENSTOWN DISTRICT

Comprises all that area which is bounded by a line commencing, at the summit of the south-western Peak of Ben Lomond, and running south along the western side of a creek known as Hobson's Creek to the border of the lake (Wakatipu), thence crossing the Lake to the most westerly point of the Peninsula, thence in a direct line to Peninsula Hill, thence southerly by a line half a mile southward of the Kawarau River, keeping a parallel course to the same until a point opposite the Shotover Junction, thence in a direct line to a point one mile below said Junction, and thence crossing the Kawarau and following a parallel course to the summit of Shotover River, keeping one mile off to the north and east of it to a point half a mile above the Gorge at Arthur's Point, thence in a direct line to the summit of Ben Lomond, and thence in a direct line to the south-west peak of same, being the starting point above referred to.

THE General Road Board will meet in the Government Offices, Dunedin, at noon of Thursday, the 11th January, 1866. Notice of business must be lodged thereat the General Road Board Office, three days prior thereto.

THE General Road Board having issued a precept for the payment of the District Road Rate for the year commencing 10th day of June, 1865, recently authorised to be levied over the Brighton Road District to the undersigned Collector of said Rate,—Notice is hereby given to the Ratepayers within the said Brighton Road District, that the said Rate is now payable to the undersigned at his house within the said District, on or after Monday the 18th day of December, 1865, and that payment thereof must be made within thirty days from the said date.

TENDERS will be received, at the Office of the Secretary for Public Works, until noon of Tuesday, 2nd January, 1866, for Contract No. 152—Erection of Store, and alterations to Kitchen at H. M. Goal, Dunedin.
Plans and Specifications may be seen, and forms of Tender obtained, at the Office of the Engineer of Roads and Works, Dunedin.
Tenders to be endorsed, "Roads and Works, Tender for Contract No. 152."
The Government does not undertake to accept the lowest or any Tender.

TENDERS will be received at the Government office, until noon of Thursday, 4th January, 1866, for the erection of a Court House at Dunstan Creek. Plans and Specifications may be seen at the Office of the Secretary for the Gold Fields, Dunedin.

THE Assessment on Runs Nos. 53 and 54 must be paid half-yearly in advance to CHARLES WORTHINGTON, Esquire, Warden, on or before 1st July and 1st January in every year.

All cattle and sheep found on these Runs on which the Assessment has not been paid will be impounded.


CROWN LANDS.—Notice is hereby given that sections 1 to 20, block III, Glenomaru District, section 1, block II, Waitahuna East, having been surveyed, and the Maps deposited in the Land Office, Dunedin, Crown Grants of the said sections will be prepared in accordance with the survey, unless objections to such survey are made on or before the 20th December.

HUNDREDS—Election of Wardens.—The Settlers in the various Hundreds are reminded that those persons alone are entitled to vote at the election of Wardens for the year 1866, who shall have taken out Depasturing Licenses previous to the 1st of January next, and that in order to obtain such licenses, a return in the subjoined form must be deposited with the Waste Land Board.

DEPASTURING LICENSES WITHIN HUNDREDS.—All applications for Depasturing Licenses within Hundreds for the ensuing year, must be made at the Land Office Dunedin.

SECTION No. 2, Block XIV, Clutha District, to be Sold by Tender. The Tenders will be received at the Government Office, Dunedin, until noon of Thursday, 11th January, 1866. The plan of the ground, with the Roads laid down, may be seen at the Provincial Secretary's Office. The Government does not bind itself to accept any offer.

THE following part of "The Protection of Certain Animals Act, 1865," is published for general information:—"No deer of any kind, hare, swan, wild goose, or wild duck of imported species whatever, partridge, English plover, rook, starling, thrush, or blackbird, shall be hunted, shot, taken, or killed at any time whatever, before the first day of May, which shall be in the year 1870"—Penalty, two to twenty pounds.

NOTICE.—To Agricultural Leaseholders and Others.
—The Provincial Government desire to direct attention to the 10th section of the "Gold Fields Amendment Act, 1865," by which the extent of Agricultural Lease Areas on Goldfields is increased from ten to fifty Acres.
By the 24th section of the same Act, it is provided that in the event of the sale of any land lawfully occupied, the value of all buildings and improvements thereon, shall be added to the upset price, and paid to the occupant if any other person becomes the purchaser. And in order further to facilitate settlement on the soil, the Provincial Government have reduced the yearly rental to two shillings and six-pence per acre, at which rate also, future payments will be made by the holders of existing leases.

PASSAGES from London and Glasgow are granted by the Provincial Government of Otago to the friends of colonists on a guarantee that the passage-money will be repaid, by instalments, within 6 months after arrival. The usual cost of a passage is £14. In the case of female domestic servants, only one-half the passage-money is charged, the other half being contributed by the Government.
