Jetty Lease Conditions and Notices




CONDITIONS APPLICABLE TO THE DUNEDIN JETTIES.

  1. All the Jetties in Dunedin will be let in one lot. Rattray-street Jetty will be handed over when finished to the lessee.

  2. The lessee must keep three lamps on each of Jetty-street new Jetty, and Rattray-street Jetty, same as at present on Jetty-street new Jetty; also one lamp on each of Pelichet Bay Jetty, Stuart-street Jetty, and Jetty-street old Jetty, the same as at present on the said old Jetty.

  3. The Lessee shall pay as required what the Harbour Master shall consider reasonable wages to a Night Watchman, who shall be appointed by and be under the direction of the Harbour Master.

  4. The Shed on the new Jetty must be at all times available for passengers' and immigrants' luggage. The charge for receiving, including delivery, of luggage and goods shall be at the rate of not more than 2s. per ton; and for storage at the rate of not more than 2s. per ton per week. No charge for storage shall be made for immigrants' luggage for the first 48 hours. So much of the Shed as is not required for luggage may be used for all unclaimed goods found on the Jetty, and for goods requiring shelter for a short time only. The Harbour Master shall have an office in the Shed.

  5. Water not to exceed the rate of 2s. 6d. per ton; but the Government will not be in any way responsible for the continuance of the water supply.

  6. Weighbridge Dues shall be the same as at present, viz., 6d. for every cart, and 1s. for every waggon.

CONDITIONS APPLICABLE TO PORT CHALMERS JETTY.

  1. The lessee of Port Chalmers Jetty must keep a lamp upon the Jetty, the same as at present.

CONDITIONS APPLICABLE TO ALL JETTIES.

  1. Jetties will be let, subject to all Acts, Ordinances, and Harbour Regulations in force for the time being, and the Harbour Master shall retain control over all Jetties, so far as these Acts, Ordinances, and Regulations will apply.

  2. The lessee must keep all the property under lease in thorough repair.

  3. No offices to be erected on any Jetty, except by permission of the Government, save sentry-box for the Night Watchman.

  4. All Jetties to be clean swept every Saturday afternoon.

  5. The Government shall be entitled to the free and sole use of any Jetty at any time, for the purpose of receiving distinguished visitors, or for any other public purpose.

  6. The Landing Steps at all Jetties shall be open to the public, and no charge shall be made for watermen's boats plying to and from said Landing places.

  7. The Jetty Dues shall be at the following rates, on all goods shipped or landed, and shall be paid by the master or owner of the vessel:

    Coals
    Bricks
    Lime
    Wooden Posts and Rails 6d. per ton of 40 ft. or 20 cwt.
    Salt
    Sawn Timber
    Stone
    Firewood, 1s. per cord; Wool, 6d. per bale; Horses, 1s.; Cattle, 6d.; Sheep, 1d.; Pigs, 2d. per head; Immigrants' and Passengers' Luggage free; all other goods at the rate of 1s. per ton. Vessels under 40 tons register shall be allowed four, and vessels above that tonnage shall be allowed six working days to load and unload at the Jetties.

  8. Any vessel remaining longer at any Jetty shall be charged one penny per registered ton per day.

  9. The lessee must keep on each Jetty, if required by the Harbour Master, a Notice Board, placed to the satisfaction of the Harbour Master, containing the Scale of Charges, and any other Jetty or Harbour Regulations which the Harbour Master may deem necessary.

  10. The leases shall contain the foregoing conditions and other usual and necessary clauses of a lease.

The following sums were collected at Jetty-street Jetties and Stuart-street Jetty, Dunedin, during the year 1864, clear of expenses of collecting. The other Jetties have been free hitherto. There is a slight alteration in the mode in which the dues are to be levied under the lease from that which existed during 1864. The expense of collecting was £625.

SALE OF TOLLS.

NOTICE is hereby given, that the Tolls authorised to be collected at the Toll Gate on the Anderson's Bay Road, at the South-Eastern Boundary of the Town Belt, for 8 months, from 1st March, 1865, will be exposed for Sale by Public Auction, at the Public Works Office, Dunedin, at noon of Monday, the 20th day of February next.

THE Clerks to the Bench may obtain any of the Forms required by the Ordinance by applying to the Provincial Secretary.

DR. FERGUSON, whose certificate appeared in the Gazette of February 8th, is requested to call immediately at the Superintendent’s Office.

THE following Clause of the “Cattle Ordinance, 1864,” is published for general information:

Every owner of Cattle shall in the month of February in every year, deliver in writing, to the Registrar of the District in which the Cattle shall be depasturing, or be, a Return of the Cattle above Three Months old owned by him, or under his charge, within such district, and shall append thereto a declaration that such Return is true to the best of his belief; and every such person neglecting to make such Return or Declaration, or making a false Return.
