POSTAGE ON CORRESPONDENCE ON PUBLIC SERVICE.

General Post Office,

Wellington, 19th January, 1865.

IN consequence of the abolition of the system of franking correspondence on the public service to go free by post, notice is hereby given, that from and after the 1st proximo, Postmasters will be authorised to receive such correspondence without prepayment, and prefer quarterly accounts for the Postage against the Department posting the same. It will be requisite that all letters, &c., should bear the designation of the Department transmitting them.

WARRANT.

IN exercise of the powers vested in me in that behalf by the “Foreign Seamen’s Act, 1860,” I, the Governor of New Zealand, do hereby notify that from and after the first day of February, 1865, the provisions of the above mentioned Act will be enforced in respect of the Masters and Crews of ships belonging to Denmark within the Islands of New Zealand.

Given under my hand at Government House, at Auckland, this first day of February, eighteen hundred and sixty-five.

As to Posting Letters in consequence of Abolition of Franking Free.

General Post Office,

Wellington, February 7th, 1865.

NOTICE is hereby given that as a general rule, in order to meet the convenience of Postmasters, it is desirable as far as possible that the Departments of the General and Provincial Governments, hitherto entitled to frank, should post the letters from each Department at one time, and as early before the closing of the post on each day as may be practicable.

Letters thus entitled to exemption from pre-payment should have the name of the Department written or printed on the left hand corner, together with the name of the person authorised to sign for the Department written in the same part, and the envelope superscribed “On the Public Service only.”
