PROCLAMATION

Of Inch Clutha Ferry, on the Molyneux River, in the Province of Otago, to be a Public Ferry.

By His Honor JOHN HYDE HARRIS, Esquire,
Superintendent of the Province of Otago.

WHEREAS by the “Ferries Ordinance Amendment Ordinance, 1856,” passed by the Superintendent and Provincial Council of the Province of Otago, it is enacted that every Ferry shall be deemed to be a Public Ferry within the meaning of the said Ordinance, which shall be proclaimed to be such by the Superintendent, by and with the advice of his Executive Council, by proclamation to be inserted in the Provincial Government Gazette: And whereas a Ferry has been established at Inch Clutha, on the Matau Branch of the Molyneux River, below Petchell’s Saw Mill:

Now therefore I, John Hyde Harris, Superintendent of the Province of Otago, with the advice and consent of the Executive Council, do hereby Proclaim and Declare the Ferry so established at Inch Clutha, on the Matau Branch of the Molyneux River, below Petchell’s Saw Mill, to be a Public Ferry, within the meaning of the said Ordinance.

Given under my hand and issued under the Public Seal of the Province of Otago, at (L.S.) Dunedin, this thirty-first day of January, one thousand eight hundred and sixty-five.

NOTICE.

By virtue of the powers in me vested by the “Ferries Ordinance, 1856,” I, John Hyde Harris, Superintendent of the Province of Otago, with the advice and consent of the Executive Council, do make the Rule contained in the Schedule hereunder written, regulating the Fares and Freights of passengers, animals, and goods, chargeable at the Inch Clutha Ferry, and the exemptions therefrom:—

SCHEDULE.

For each person 0 6
For each horse, mule, or ass, not drawing any carriage 1 0
For each head of great cattle 0 6
For each sheep, goat, or hog, when under 20 0 2
For each sheep, goat, or hog, when 20 and upwards 0 1
For each cart, dray, wagon, of what kind soever, exclusive of goods or passengers 1 0
For each horse, mule, ass, and bullock drawing any cart, dray, wagon, or other carriage 0 6
For each bale of wool 0 6
Other goods, at per 100 lbs 0 2

The above Fares and Freights shall be chargeable from sunrise till one hour after sunset. From one hour after sunset till sunrise the above Fares and Freights and one-half more shall be charged.

EXEMPTIONS.

Persons or conveyances carrying the Mail, and any person exhibiting a certificate under the hand of His Honor the Superintendent that such person is on duty in the employment of the General or Provincial Governments, are exempt from payment of the said Fares and Freights.

His Honor the Superintendent directs it to be notified that he has been pleased to appoint Sergeant 2nd Class Lin. Ward Smith, No. 135, to be Inspector of Slaughter-houses and of Cattle intended for slaughter in the Tuapeka District, acting at Waitahuna, vice Constable Albert, transferred.
